Dear All,
I have two expansion packs and want to open them with Expansion Manager to merge them, but both packs cannot be downloaded to the Expansion Manager. However, when the packs are installed directly to the keyboard (SX920), there is no problem. What should I do to resolve this issue? Thank you.

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, Djohar!

Please note the file name extensions of the Expansion Packs:

CPI (.cpi) and PPI (.ppi) are Pack Installation files and can only be installed directly on the instrument (previous expansion content is deleted!), but cannot be imported into the Expansion Manager (YEM).

CPF (.cpf) and PPF (.ppf) are Pack Project files and can only be imported into the YEM and cannot be installed directly on the instrument.

Combining (merging) content from several packs in YEM into a single (new) pack is only possible if they are non-protected PPF (.ppf) packs.

To save space in the Expansion Wave Memory, you can deselect certain voices for all packs in the YEM. These will not be installed on the instrument later using the CPF/PPF Pack Installation file generated for this compilation (or via WiFi for suitable models).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

At least with the current YEM version you can combine CPF and PPF packs.

Hi Kurt,

Several CPF or PPF packs that were imported into the YEM (or parts thereof) can of course be "combined" to a CPI.

But what I meant is, you cannot import ("merge") content from CPF packs into a (new or existing) PPF pack to have "everything in one pack".

Chris

Oh yes, you are of course right. I should have read more carefully what you wrote.

Hi Chris
Thank you for the very helpful information. The SX 920 is my latest Yamaha keyboard after not using Yamaha products for several years. My previous Yamaha was the PSR S2000, which is very different. It looks like I have to learn about t PPI, PQI, PPF and others related voice data to maximize my beloved SX920. I hope to learn a lot from the seniors in this group."

Hi All
I have  obtained the .ppf files and have combined them with other .ppf files through expansion management, and installed them to the keyboard successfully. Now, there's another issue I encountered. When I play the style, the drum, percussion, and bass voices do not produce any sound. I have tried inputting these voices one by one, but sometimes I do not know which voice should be included in a particular style because there are quite a few voice options. Is there a way to automatically synchronize these voices with the existing style?

If you keep the styles together with the voices in expansion manager at the moment you create your pack, the voices should be correctly assigned automaticly. If you want to use the styles outside expansion memory, you can always copy them afterwards (but they will only work if the pack is loaded anyway, so there is no much reason to do this).

I think you don't import these content into a NEW pack, but you try to import in a CPF? A CPF cannot be modified in YEM.

Assure you have My packs selected in the left part, then click on the + sign above packs, then click Create pack. This will create a new empty pack in which you can create new voices or drum kits, or you can import data, as styles, voices, even import an entire PPF pack, containing multiple voices/styles/registrations/multipads, and so on. Just drag-and-drop files in the pack's content area (where voices appears in YEM, not in the pack's area).
However, you said already, some comments up, that you have already created PPFs and you have installed them into the keyboard. How did you do that?
Can you send us a picture/screenshot of your YEM? I think you did something wrong with your packs.

Regards,
Vali

I dont think you can create and save project files for later use, but the YEM starts from where you left, when you close and re-open it..

Hi @Doffi,

Are you using the YEM on Windows or on macOS?

I am using Windows 11 ...

Hi @Doffi,

You can save/backup the current YEM status in Windows as follows and/or alternate between different YEM statuses:

- Press "Windows key + R" to open the Run dialog.

- Enter the following (or copy from here) and press Enter key:

%LocalAppData%

- This opens Windows Explorer with the following path:

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\

- In this "Local" folder you will find the "Yamaha" folder.

- Create a shortcut for this folder on the Windows Desktop. To do this, you can drag the "Yamaha" folder to the desktop while holding down the RIGHT mouse button and then select "Create Shortcut" from the context menu.

- In the future you can quickly open the aforementioned folder "C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Yamaha" by double-clicking on the shortcut you just created on the desktop.

- In this "Yamaha" folder you will find the "Expansion Manager" folder. This is the so-called "User folder" of the YEM. It contains all current settings including the currently imported packs. (The latter are located in the "Packs" subfolder.)

- To save the current YEM status for later use, first close the YEM, then open the "Yamaha" folder as described ("C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Yamaha") and rename the "Expansion Manager" folder there. You can, for example, add the current date (e.g. "Expansion Manager 2024-12-30") or a reference to the packs it contains (e.g. "Expansion Manager - Organ Packs").

- The next time you start YEM, a new, empty (initialized) "Expansion Manager" folder will be created automatically at this location. Import the Instrument Info file (.n27) of your instrument again as your Install Target, and you can start again with an empty YEM.

- If you later want to reload an earlier YEM status, close the YEM, rename the current "Expansion Manager" folder as desired and rename the folder that contains the desired earlier YEM status back to "Expansion Manager".

By the way, another option would be not to rename the current "Expansion Manager" folder, but to move it to a subfolder that is named meaningfully (e.g. with the current date or a reference to the packs it contains).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

You can also use Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login and generate as many YEM instances, using Multi YEM Manager function in this software.

This is a video how you can use it!

Practically, this function do what Chris said, but does not imply user interaction with folders. It manages itself, and put them in an some nice order.
Be aware of Windows partition size, it depends on that partition size as how many instances you can make.

Vali

Hi All,
I used the export file pack on the My Pack page in YEM, where we can save the pack file as a project, referred to as a Bup file (which I believe stands for backup). This file can be opened and edited at any time with YEM.

Now I am attempting to combine two ethnic packs, but some of the drum and bass voices are not working properly, they are  going to incorrect voice placements. Someone suggested changing the SLB number, but I don't know to find locate correct SLB number for the style packs. Do you have any ideas to resolve this problem?

Thank  you

I am also a user of the korg, PA500 and PA 900
There is an application that makes it easier for us to combine styles and then download it to the keyboard called Korg PA Manager. This is indeed a third-party application, but it is very helpful in adjusting voice sampling to each style

Am I the one who has not mastered how to use the same thing with YEM? or indeed YEM does not have the same way as Korg PA management
