Hello all,

So I have a shiny new 920 on its way, and I also purchased a Shure SM58SE Switched Microphone. It's occurred to me that it may not come with a cable needed. Can anyone advise what sort to get. Nothing too long as just sitting at the keyboard.

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

The correct cable is a "XLR female to 6.3 mm TS ("mono") jack plug" (unbalanced) cable.

It shouldn't be too long. I recommend a length between (minimum) 1.5 m and (maximum) 3 m.

Please note that it must NOT be a balanced cable, i.e. NOT an "XLR female to 6.3 mm TRS ("stereo") jack plug" cable.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks once again.

I am trying to source a cable on line right now. I am finding an awful lot of information saying that TRS would be the best choice?

Sorry I don't want to sound as if I am not taking your advice. Would you be able to send me a link for what I should order please?

Thank you
Steve

Chris is right. You need something like this:
Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

TRS would be better, but it doesn't work on your keyboard because the keyboard's microphone input is unbalanced.

Hi Steve,

As I said, you cannot use a balanced cable (XLR to TRS) in this case, because the Mic Input jack of your keyboard is unbalanced. This means the RING contact of this jack is interally not connected, so you cannot connect a balanced microphone using a balanced cable here.

Please use, as suggested, an unbalanced "XLR female to TS" cable.

The  correct wiring of the cable is as follows:

TS Tip <> XLR pin 2 (signal +)
TS Sleeve <> XLR pin 1 & 3 (shield & signal -)

Best regards,
Chris
