November 15 is the one year anniversary of the Genos2 launch.  Any chance that Yamaha will release a firmware update to address the reported bugs?

Style dynamics control cannot be memorized into a registration. Some people want the sliders to have the option of being as in the Genos1, with no catch function.  Others would like the option of dynamical control of the styles by the left hand velocity as in the Genos1. Those requests are not to undo the new Genos2 approach  but to add the option of the methods of the Genos1.

Hi
It is about time Yamaha pulled their finger out and gave us a way to load sounds into the DX7.
They go and put the engine in, but only drives a few sounds compared to what is out there.
Would also be nice if they put in a PDF reader  to load music in and display on a monitor.
That is my half pennies worth!!!

I do not see any of the above as Bugs. We have to accept that genos2 works a little differently than Genos1 did. As for PDF readers the I pad or any tablet will do this perfectly.

Yamaha needs to add the MUSIC FINDER back into all their keyboard again.

my 2 cents

Hey Drake

Sounds like you REALLY don't like playlists on the SX920?? I must admit I found them quite easy to use directly off a USB on the SX900 ..in fact I had a lot of Joe's Fake Book MFD's when I still had my SX900 and even though they were made for the Tyros 4 they converted very easily and it was very easy also to make "gig mfd's" and then let the 900 make them into playlists.  To be honest I found that the older arrangers that did have a music finder tended to use the same preset for quite a few different songs so it tended to get a bit boring.   Have you tried downloading a few of the fake books on the PSR website here https://psrtutorial.com/lessons/playing/mf/94_FBMFDs.html  and use either the S950 or T4 fake books

Music Finder gave only one voices preset per song. Playlists link to registrations which give up to 10 per song  with 1600 such entries available from Yamaha for free. I do not understand the nostalgia for Music Finder which is much more limited than Playlist.

ChrisH

Hi Charley

Are you talking about the repertoire function which takes your style and matches it with songs in the music finder database??  On my Tyros if I use it it will often come up with a myriad of song titles which means if a bunch of songs I intended to play from my gig list are put thru music finder they will all have the same intro and same preset style.  For that very reason I prefer to use song styles where I can play 5 songs in a row and each will have a different intro and style ... unless you carefully edit the MFD file the music finder can become quite boring.  I know that Drake will disagree but I really like to also work outside the box and use a style for a song that one would never use normally and it sounds really good! Does the G2 have a repertoire button just for interest??

Hello Friends!

Genos 1 and 2 do not have the repertoire function. Yamaha discontinued it sometime ago, maybe during the earlier model Tyros's??  This is one of those dead horses I just cannot stop beating!! I really liked that function and miss it. I used to use it all the time, but apparently not many others did. It was just "right there" and didn't require anything more than a button push when selecting a style. Just a feature I'd like to see come back. But, I am OK without it.............-charley

Well, the music finder required installing a file; now with included playlist registrations (especially on G2!!!) you can *search* by song name; you can divvy it up into subfolders, etc. The only catch there is they are registrations, so unless you freeze your split points, fingering etc, they will be overwritten.

Hi Mark

Sadly music finder relied on the MFD file to "tell" the keyboard what style to use etc etc which meant you could only use preset styles .. On my previous SX900 I used to use Fake Book MFD's but again you are restricted to presets   Can you make a playlist on Genos2 that uses a custom style rather than a preset style .. That way if you are playing covers they actually sound correct.

Hello Chris

The Playlist feature is useless to me. The SX920 has a great SEARCH feature for finding my custom song styles. I have simply created 23 folders for each of my separate gig sets. I had to add to each of my lead sheet a note telling to start with intro 123 and go to MAIN ABCD. My lead sheets already had noted on them the key to transpose to and what Backup Singers registration to use.

I used the SX920 for the first time at a gig last week and will be using it at 3 gigs this week.

I just have to adjust to where I look on the Screen to double check that every thing is properly set when I begin each song.

Hello Chris

Actually the Music Finder could be linked to any style on your USB stick. I only use my Custom made song styles with the MFD which all were stored on an external USB stick. I have never used a factory preset style that was on the keyboard itself or even stored in the USER area.

Thanks Drake

So do you edit the MDB section of the style file when you want to use a custom style and add music finder records to it ? So after you have added the MDB record to the style you can then you also edit the MFD database and include that style in the database Are you using Jorgen's software to do that ??

Hi Chris,

You can easily create your own Music Finder Records and of course link user styles that are on the Tyros4 hard drive or USB stick, for example. Please see pages 81/82 in the Tyros4 Reference Manual ("5 Music Finder - ... > Editing Records").

If you link styles that are on the USB stick, only one stick should be used at a time so that it is always recognized as USB1 (internal drive letter I:/). And of course this stick must also be connected later so that Music Finder can find the style.

By the way, most users (including me) probably find using Registrations (as opposed to Music Finder) "better" and/or easier. In Registrations you can, among other things, save changes to the voices of the keyboard and style parts directly. When using Music Finder you would have to change the OTS of the style (and therefore save the style again for each change).

However, some users (like Drake, apparently) still prefer to use the Music Finder. One advantage of this is that you can then use the Registration Memory for other purposes in parallel, e.g. to control the Mic/VH settings.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Thanks Chris

That is very useful!! I dunno how I missed that in the Reference Manual.  I will create a bunch of records using my song styles and probably save as a replace function as the current database uses only the preset styles. Much appreciated!!!   Just for my curiosity all styles have a MDB section in the style that can be edited .. If you write new records and save on a USB as an MFD file does the MBD section of the style just gets ignored??

Appreciate all the assistance. (BTW I do use registrations but mainly for my foot pedals
