Hello. I recently bought a PSR-2000 and I've been trying to connect it to my Windows 11 PC using a 8-pin din to USB A cable. I downloaded the USB MIDI driver, version 3.1.4. The installation did not work, because it said that the device was not connected. I tried the cable into the 'to host' connector in the keyboard and set the host select to PC 1 and PC 2, but neither allowed me to install the driver. Is it possible to connect this keyboard to a Windows 11 computer using a USB?

Very old keyboard, before USB was common, so I doubt it.

You need a USB to MIDI interface. You connect this interface to the MIDI ports of your PSR-2000.

Hi,

Toril and Kurt are correct; The 8-pin mini-DIN "TO HOST" port won't work with modern computers. You should therefore get a USB to MIDI interface instead, and connect it to your PSR-2000's 5-pin DIN in/out terminals instead.

On older Yamaha instruments, the TO HOST connector was designed to interface with PCs that had legacy 25-pin (PC1 mode) or 9-pin (PC2 mode) serial ports, or Macintosh computers with 8-pin mini-DIN serial ports (MAC mode). As you probably already know, none of these ports are particularly common on computers these days. In this particular application, off-the-shelf adapter cables won't work, since Yamaha used a proprietary cable (non-standard wiring/pinout).

In order to use the TO HOST interface, the Guests are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login is also required. This driver will not run on a modern 64-bit Windows 11 system, however. Otherwise known as the "Yamaha CBX-MIDI Driver", the final version was released for Windows versions up to and including XP, and remained 32-bit only.

Please note that current Yamaha instruments have a TO HOST interface that is based on USB instead. It uses a Guests are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login terminal on the instrument side, connecting directly to a USB type A port on the computer via a standard cable. The Guests are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login is only compatible with instruments that have the USB TO HOST connector.
