Teddy Swims (with the tattoos) and the late Joe Cocker (without the tattoos) before him has that unique voice that's easy to recognise.
The style is back to the soul roots of the 1960's/1970s.  I bet it was a highlight of your event.

A series of live music get togethers you might enjoy (back to the roots style) is the series Live from Daryl's House. Daryl Hall (in his 70's) with his house band invite guests to perform their hit songs live.

Thanks Sam! It was indeed one of the highlights, so were Top Gun (I've already posted on youtube) and The Show Must Go On (my voice suddenly felt 85%) so, yay!

This song first came to me through the adjoining wall! One of my student neighbours who plays an old Yamaha with built-in speakers,(don't know the model), practices this song every day. I'd never heard it before but the "I Lose Contro oh-oo oh oh'l" refrain was so clear I checked it out on YouTube - 244 million views. I guess you could say it's popular.

Teddy gained fame through youtube covers (just like Chappel Roan did) and is now one of the most streamed artists, specifically Lose Control (There are even 5 versions I'm aware of; Album, Village Sessions, Strings only, Piano only, and Live) and they don't even share the same vocal track (he even changes the lyrics slightly in the Village Sessions version) but his vocals are unmatched!
