I have an old song style from years ago (Possibly Early Tyros ) and whilst the intro and ending are reasonable the style is really basic. I now have a Genos (1) keyboard and would like to improve the accompaniment for this piece of music. Firstly are there any styles on Genos that would be an improvement or even a Multipad to help fill out the backing of the style.
Thanks in advance for any help / advice.

Hey Mike,

Stranger On The Shore is in my repertoire, although I haven't played it for quite a while.  When I get to the Church this morning, I'll check what style I use on the Genos, and let you know.

Looks good thanks. I think I may struggle with loading via midi. I'm not too good at the technical side of the Genos but I'll give it a try.

I do like being able to try out a file before keeping it though, I've got plenty I probably won't use already! But you can just do an ordinary download from there if you don't enjoy the techy bits 👍

Or you can just do a search for a song and see if any of the recommended styles are something you have already. If you tell it which keyboard you have it will colour code the tags for suitability.

Hey, I'm sorry for the long time to get back to you.  Real Life (TM) for I'm the way again.  I only just now actually got to the Church.

Anyway, I use the easy listening style on the Geno's.  Variation A to start, and then variation B.  I use a Romance clarinet, with Movie Strings on voice 2.  I have the harmony set to block on Voice 2.

I am replicating the Aker Bilk style for this song.

Hope this helps!

Hi.
Not a identical "song style", but there is a style called DreamyBallad that is nice to use when play Stranger On The Shore.
It's to find in the EasyListening category at both G1 and G2, and there also are a nice AB'ish Clarinet in one of the OTS settings.
In many ways very similiar to the one mentioned in the post by 'aparker', but in a bit slower preset tempo that may have to be raised a bit...
Cheers & Happy Playing. 🍷 🎶🎵

You don't really need a custom style for this song. There is no intro at all in the original. Acker Bilk plays an upbeat low F as a pickup and then the accompaniment starts with his F an octave higher. Find a style with a simple 4 to the bar jazz guitar, soft acoustic bass and a brush drumkit (or just select those sounds in the mixer). The ending on the original is trickier as there's a sudden stop, followed by Acker's final solo part and then the strings play the last few bars with the key change from Bb to D!

Romance Clarinet is pretty close, but the vibrato is wrong for Acker's sound. Analysing it, I found that there's a lot of amplitude modulation as well as pitch modulation. The only way I could get this was to programme the sound using the mod wheel or joystick to bring in the vibrato. It's pretty much off or full on! I suppose you could use the foot switch for this. In the end I recorded the backing first, then played that back while playing the melody with right hand and using the left hand to control the vibrato.

For the track that's on my website, I also added some portamento strings that the Yamaha couldn't get right back in the days of the PSR-S900! The three clarinet sounds I used are also available on the site. Guets are not allowed to view links. It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
