Hello everyone,

May I ask if all the songs and styles from Genos1 transfer to Genos2 please without having to re assign each rhythm, voice etc please?

Many thanks

Colin

Registrations? Yes, although there are a few styles they dropped from G1 that aren't in G2 (hence the Genos complete pack for G2), and if you referenced any of those styles, you'll need to re-link to your registration due to them now being in a different directly (i.e. not in Preset)

Cheers,

Sorry to go off-topic here, but I'd really like for Yamaha to come up with a better system for this. Why can't styles be easily found when they move to a different folder or place? For each style a unique hash can be calculated, so searching for the same hash should be relatively easy to do.

Now I have to relink all my registrations...

Because of this, I've decided to put everything (styles, registrations, multipads, etc.) on a USB stick. When Genos3 appears I put the G2 stick in it and it should just work.

An extra benefit is that I can take my USB, go over to a friend with a G2 and I can play there as if I was at home. Unless he has an USB stick in the bottom, so my registrations again link to the wrong place!  ::)

A very clumsy system, if you ask me...

I quite agree on that. Registrations are meant to be used only on particular keyboard (on which registrations were created) and there's absolutely no guarantee that it will work on the next keyboard that we will buy.
Many times it does work (because Yamaha only makes small changes from model to next model), but even then we need to pay big attention on how we organize related files that are used in registrations: voices, styles, multipads, etc.
My guess is, that many don't even realize, that registration maybe doesn't sound the way it did on previous (original) keyboard.

The solution for this mess would be, if styles and multipads (used in registrations) would be automatically stored directly into registrations. That would obviously increase the size of each registration, but it would make the whole registrations handling much simpler.

Marten, that's why I've been doing everything from the USB drive for a while; registrations and styles; that way I can pop my USB stick into any keyboard and as long as it can read the registration, it can play it

I *used* to put custom styles into my user drive, and do registrations off that (that works fine, you just have to remember that each time you need to copy all your user styles; additionally, you could run into trouble if you exceed 250 styles on some keyboards (500 on the more recent ones), once reason why I don't do that anymore. That and constantly copying my styles to user drives... (I demo on a *lot* of keyboards)
