Producer question

In more recent models, Yamaha removed the ability to enter chords for a user style. They only allow preset styles.
I'm trying to use the Producer program to resolve that.

The manual says:
"Producer provides two methods of creating, auditioning and
saving song files: Playing the song in Producer, or
Expanding the song in SongCreator.
Playing the song is more convenient, especially during
development, but it has a drawback. Each time the PC has
the PSR play a chord, a small timing error is made by the
PSR that, over many measures, accumulates to where
chords trigger ahead of the beat. Expanding the midi does
not exhibit this effect."

"Expand/Play a Producer File on the PSR
Set Auto Fill In button to Off.
Depress the Song (A) button and load the midi.
Depress Digital Recording/ Song Creator and move to the
Chd tab. Depress Expand.
(PSR-S900 users, depress the Function button to see Digital
Recording Menu)
Depress the Song Play button to audition.
Depress Save In Song Creator to save the file."

However, when I try to expand the file on my Yamaha SX900, it still only allows preset styles. The User option isn't there. Am I missing something?

You're not missing anything. I informed Yamaha (2021? I think is when I found out) that they removed the ability to expand user styles from anything using G1 OS (Genos, sx700/sx900/A5000) and instead of fixing that, they just made sure they put that back into sx920/sx720/G2 (and ended up introducing a different bug, with what I call missing patch remain: turning off a right sound, even while sustaining, instantly ends the sound. All previous Yamahas, the sound kept sustaining. After I sent them an email regarding *that*, they fixed it within 2 weeks on PSRsx920/sx720, but the missing sustain bug still remains on G2 and CVP909 (and funny enough, PA5x... meaning that literally no one in the world noticed this bug introduced in all 2022 and later keyboards for a year and a half!))

So, sorry; only the older Yamahas and newer Yamahas will let you expand using user styles: so it works on s770/s970/s975/sx920/sx720/G2/T5/T4, but *not* G1,sx700/sx900/A5000.

If you google, you'll notice I've been warning about that for almost 4 years; that was a deal breaker for me, unfortunately, which is 1 reason why I still have my s970 (even when I finally get permission from the Mrs to buy a coveted G2, I'm keeping the s970... non-touch screen editing is still faster due to 'reset' buttons by pressing arrows in the opposite direction. G1/G2/sx900/sx920 not being multi touch and all)

Thank you for the explanation. I still have my S970 but it's not compatible with some newer Yamaha features (expansion packs, etc.)

? The s970 is compatible with almost all current ppf packs (there are a few voices that won't load, such as the Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login+, and Tablas that used to load on older YEM's now won't due to a 128 key drumkit update). The only feature's I can think of that it's not compatible with are Revo/Ambient drums, S.Art2, and 3 voice layers, half bar fill... and I guess any sample larger than 509 mb. You can even install Audio styles...?
