Did you already install the USB-MIDI Driver V3.1.4 avaialble on the Yamaha website (be sure to chose the correct version: 64 or 32 bit).
SX900 and S670
Former keyboards: E433, E463, SX700

Hi @BobAjob,

What do you want to use the USB connection between Tyros1 and computer for?

Note that this is a pure USB-MIDI connection, i.e. you can transfer MIDI data from the computer to the Tyros1 and vice versa. First of all, you definitely need to install the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver, as mentioned by @johan.

USB-MIDI Driver V3.1.4  64-bit (for all current Windows 11/10 systems):
>>> Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

USB-MIDI Driver V3.1.4  32-bit (only needed if you have a Windows 10 32-bit system!):
>>> Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

In suitable MIDI programs on the PC, Tyros1 is then displayed as:

MIDI Output Devices: "Digital Workstation 1" (corresponds to Tyros1 MIDI Port1 Receive) and "Digital Workstation 2" (corresponds to Tyros1 MIDI Port2 Receive)

as well as:

MIDI Input device: "Digital Workstation" (corresponds to Tyros1 MIDI Port 1 Transmit). Note that Port 2 Transmit is not available via USB MIDI.

To access the files/folders on Tyros1 USER, FD and HD (optional) drives from the computer, you would also need to install the Yamaha MusicSoft Downloader (replaces the old "File Utility" tool that originally came with Tyros1). The file transfer here takes place via the USB-MIDI connection, so the USB-MIDI Driver mentioned above must also be installed.
>>> Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

Best regards,
Chris

Are you trying to access the hard drive?

If so, use "USB Storage Mode". Power on the keyboard while holding down the Music Finder button. Now the T1 hard drive will look like an external drive to your PC.

Hi Fred,

Are you sure this also works on Tyros1?

As far as I know, the USB Storage Mode you mentioned was only introduced with Tyros2, i.e. with Tyros1, the Yamaha "File Utility" tool (whose successor is now the "MusicSoft Downloader") had to be used to transfer files between the keyboard's hard drive and a PC, as I described.

Good question, Chris. It's been a long time since I've owned the Tyros 1.

My memory isn't what it used to be, so you could be right. But it wouldn't take much to test it out.

Fred
