Is there a way to transfer a MIDI song file from SX920 to a computer without using a USB stick/drive?

Hi Hank,

To transfer files between the SX920 and a PC via USB cable, you can use the "MusicSoft Downloader" (MSD) program (only available for Windows, i.e. NOT for macOS).

If you haven't already done so, please first install the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver on your PC. For current Windows systems, you need V3.1.4 (64-bit). Note that the USB-MIDI connection between the keyboard and the PC must already be established BEFORE starting the driver installation. I recommend performing the driver installation for all USB ports on the PC one after the other to ensure that the USB-MIDI driver works on all USB ports.

You can download the MusicSoft Downloader (V5.7.5) here:

When you start the MSD for the first time, the existing USB-MIDI connection is normally automatically recognized and set up. If this does not work automatically for some reason, a window for manual setup appears. Select "Digital Keyboard (1)" or "Digital Workstation (1)" for MIDI input and MIDI output. ("Digital Keyboard (2)" or "Digital Workstation (2) is not required here.)

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
