Hi all, hoping someone may be able to assist me with this query. I'm just starting to find my way around this new app & so far it looks pretty good. But having selected a few styles/voices that I wanted to install on my G2 and connected the USB cable, the G2 screen informs me that installing these will overwrite all existing expansion folder content. Is that correct or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks Ash

Hi @Bluebear,

Yamaha's relatively new "Expansion Explorer" app (available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android) is unfortunately not compatible with the "Yamaha Expansion Manager" (YEM) program.

Yamaha clearly warns that all contents previously installed with the Expansion Manager (YEM) will be removed when installing new content from Expansion Explorer:

Cautions
Contents already installed by Yamaha Expansion Manager into the Expansion area of your keyboard, including pre-installed content in PSR-SX920 and 720, will be removed when installing new content from Yamaha EXPANSION EXPLORER.

About pre-installed content in PSR-SX920 and 720, you will be able to reinstall them through the EXPANSION EXPLORER app, if desired.

In addition, the Expansion Explorer can only manage Yamaha packs. In order to manage self-created packs or third-party packs or to create/edit packs yourself, the Expansion Manager (YEM), available for Windows and Mac, must be used.

By the way, even when using the Expansion Manager (YEM), a normal installation (.ppi or .cpi Pack Install file) via USB stick will delete all previous expansion contents on the instrument. To add expansion contents, you must either install the pack via WiFi or use the Quick Pack Installation method (.pqi or .cqi Pack Install file), which is only possible with Quick Pack Install compatible instruments (e.g. Genos1/2, PSR-SX).

Until Yamaha makes the Expansion Explorer and the Expansion Manager fully compatible with each other, I don't think using the Expansion Explorer to manage expansion content makes sense. The only thing I use from the Expansion Explorer (now and then) is the new function of analyzing Audio files to find a (more or less) suitable Style for playing the song in question.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
