Hello Friends!

A little history..........

Back in the day when I first joined PSR Tutorial I was the proud owner of a new PSR1000. This was my first "real" arranger, having always had the cheaper toy-like ones. It also had a built in floppy drive which was a Godsend at that time since file transfers were always a pain in the kiester before floppys. Remember actual physical cartridges that only had 10 styles for $80? Floppys made large style collections possible and manageable. Soon after joining this forum some of those current members welcomed me and others with open arms. The knowledge and encouragement of those dear members made it only natural to want to share some of my creations with them too. It's been a love affair ever since.

Around 1996 I started making my "Gems" style disks. I made 14 of them over those earlier years and they still remain here for download!  These were similar to the "Gig Disks" Gary Diamond was making at the time. There seemed to be a regular stable of talent making and sharing styles and stuff. The reason those Gems disks only had about 20 styles on each of them was because that's all that would fit on a floppy. Now one could easily have a million styles on a single USB drive...........

The only real dilemna I'm having completing my first new Gems disk is how many exclusive Genos2 voices I should have in these styles. I hate not to use my newest favorite piano voices like the Character Grand and Uprights in the right hand voicing, and I guess its easy enough to chose different OTS for older keyboards? There aren't too many exclusive Genos2 voices I put in the style mix. Yamaha still likes their MegaVoices and most are still excellent choices. I still find lots of voices I like in the Legacy folder. And the same with the older drum kits. Newer isn't necesarily better!!

I also belong to the YamahaMusicians forum and plan to frequent both. Sometimes I do double-posts so all my friends can keep in touch with me.  -charley

Ratley. Some time ago you supplied (Ratley MS-CD) Styles, they play well on my DGX670.
These are very good and in most cases are new styles to me never heard before, do you have an idea where you obtain them from ?.

Hi Graham

I still have the MS-CD set .. The styles (well at least the song styles) were all created by a guy called Pierke Musen  There were 2400 styles in the set and Charley also uploaded them as FFFF.zip here .. I have also modified quite a few of Charley's styles and they are uploaded on Yamaha Musicians.com on the Yamaha Arrangers Forum  ...Plenty of others too that are SFF1 and SFF2 that would suit your 670  Both Charley and myself get quite a few styles from the Fred Tyros site but it's tricky to negotiate as it's in French!!

Hello Graham !!

The MS-CD styles I have were on a physical CD dated 2006. I believe these were all the styles available at that time from the publisher. My latest "Gems" offering starts over using the thousands of pre-auditioned styles I have been culling. These styls may have originated from anywhere. Some of those collections I have been sharing recently are exactly the type of styles I seek to make those gems. When I decide which styles to include I try to get a variety of styles from many sources for each disk. Sometimes it's easy to hear similar styles that came from the same source in one gems disk. If you tell me the names of specific styles you like I might be able to find where I sourced them. They may have already been in some of the other collections I posted.  -charley
