How to realtime record a specific channel in Midi Multi Recording mode

In [Midi Multi Recording] mode, I would like to (for example) realtime record a synth voice on channel 16.

Via [Mixer/EQ], [Song], I changed the voice on channel 16 to a synth. Returning to [Midi Multi Recording] shows the channel 16 icon changed accordingly.

I select [Rec] on channel 16, play the keyboard (which seems to start recording as expected), and then I stop recording.

Two issues:
- Nothing is played back after selecting the on-screen play button
- Channel 16 voice is reset to Grand Piano

Am I missing something, or is this not a supported recording mode? StepEdit mode allows you to easily select the channel for recording.

Using PSR-SX920, firmware version 1.10.

When you select a track for recording, you also need to set which source channel to record from - R1, R2, R3, multipad, style parts, etc.

You should put the synth voice on R1, arm track 16 and set the source as R1. Then record.

Thanks DerekA -- I can make it work with that method.

However I suspect the intended methodology is:

- User sets up the voices for each song channel via [Mixer/EQ] -> [Song]
- On the [Midi Multi Recording] page, user picks a source channel for the midi input
- User plays the part, and the selected [Song] voice is played/heard and the midi notes are recorded

You can already set multiple different voices via [Mixer/EQ] -> [Song], and the icons change accordingly on the [Midi Multi Recording] page. And using an external midi keyboard you can individually play the [Song] voices on each channel.

Also, using an external midi keyboard (input="MIDI IN") while recording you will hear the [Song] voice as expected, but again the selected [Song] voices are reset for ALL channels after recording.

So it feels like a bug that the [Song] voices are being reset after live recording.

And while I'm typing, it would be a very nice feature to add "local keyboard" to the list of sources (after "MIDI IN") so I could use the keyboard for live recording and not worry about splits or have to look up the channel-to-part mapping. Any [TRANSPOSE] settings would still be honored unless a drum voice was selected.

When you set a voice directly in the channel icon on the MIDI multi record page, you are actually selecting a voice to play back. And it has no permanent effect unless you apply the changes into the MIDI via the 'setup' icon. When you record, it always sets up the voice depending on the selected source part - this is burned into the start of the MIDI file track  as SY*** commands.
