Are the speakers ok for a small gig or do you need external speakers always.
Are they just good for monitors or practice?
Also, anybody using a sub with the built in speakers?
This coming from a guy who's tired of carnying 2 mains, a subwoofer, and small monitor. Great sound but don't know if it's worth it.

Hello Skip

The SX920 speakers are aimed at you the keyboard player. They are great to use a monitor and when practicing at home. I suppose you could entertain a small room with 20-30 people.

However for gigs I use one MAUI 5 (mono setup) which is a knock off of the Bose system and much cheaper (my cost was $600 new). This PA setup is very light weight and not an issue carrying it.

Drake has it about right with regards to numbers in a small room. The sound quality can be greatly improved (but not the overall volume) by using a small Yamaha Sub KSSSW 100.  I use an EV50 for all my gigs but it's a fairly heavy lump which would defeat the object of what you're trying to do. Obviously a decent PA is always going to sound better than the internal speakers.  Having said that, they are pretty good for on-board speakers.

I believe the SX920 has the same speakers as the SX900 and these are designed to throw the sound all around. If you look you will see they have a special shape. My SX900 dose exactly this. The sound is the same where ever you stand.
