Dear all,
While exploring my brand new SX920 I really cannot understand the application of this new feature under the "voice edit" menù.
In my mind it would be great to manage the R1, R2 and R3 voices VELOCITY ranges (e.g. having a piano sound on the full range and hear additional strings only when playing hard), but it is not working this way.

Does anybody have an idea of the application of such a feature?

Hello,

You're in the best position to test this setting. Create a sound with different maximum and minimum parameters, and vice versa. Dynamic testing on the keyboard is what we call "exploration, discovery".

I can think of only three possible applications/tracks at the moment:

- Control of the Dynamic range between the bottom or top of the keyboard for this sound (balance),
- Control of the bass/treble effect with the touch, bringing brilliance/presence to this sound,
- Control/Programming of "Dynamic Control" for sounds used in this new Function that the SX920 now has... via AccèsDirect/StartStop, 4 velocity presets available!

On this last possibility, I refer you to a "Dynamic Control" search on Genos 1 and Sx920 " as well as the manuals... Function that controls the volume of the 6 accompaniment tracks with keyboard dynamics (to control the effect, go to the Styles Volumes screen, it's not quite the same Function on Genos2!

Keep us informed of your progress/discoveries on this subject ...

With the Velocity Limit function, you can prevent certain samples from being triggered if you accidentally hit a key too hard. You can, for example, avoid an unwanted growl effect in some saxophone voices.

Here is a video on this topic:

The video is in German, but I think you can understand what is being done even without knowing German. You can also activate automatically generated English subtitles.

Thanks for the responses, now I understand a little bit more what is the intent.
I still think the other way would be a much more creative tool (instead of a limiting one), but It Is what It Is.

I would be interested to understand the communication channels Yamaha Is using tò collect the "voice of customer"...

Thanks again and enjoy !!

I'd like to come back to the use of two sounds with dynamics.

To have a second sound that reacts/appears with a Dynamic touch, you can use Harmony/ Arpeggio ... Direct Access > Harmony > cogwheel > velocity settings = approx. 105/115 with the volume of the desired harmonization... it's the Harmonized part that will be heard with the dynamic above 105/115! Great for Guitar ensembles, Violin/Cello, Woodwinds etc. ... try harmonized programming with various sounds on R1,R2,And R3, on Multi mode and DUOS presets ! ! !

I won't say more ...

You can achieve this with "Touch Sense". For example:
R1 = Piano
R2 = Strings

Now change the values for "Touch Sense" in the "Voice Set" of R2 (Strings) as follows:
Touch Sense Depth = 127
Touch Sense Offset = 0

Now only the piano should be heard with a light to medium touch, and piano and strings with a strong touch.

To understand the effect of Touch Sense Depth and Offset, it is best to look in the manual, there are two drawings that explain it better than 1000 words.

Great hints!!
I Will try both options.

Thanks a lot
