For health reasons, I will be staying in Canada for the winter. However, my friends in Arizona don't want to miss our annual Smith Christmas Singalong. A friend there has offered to host the party. All we have to do is handle the technology.

I'll probably use Google Meet as the platform as I use Google more than anything on a computer.

For video, we think using a iPhone for transmission will work reasonably well. My wife has offered to operate it. The only important thing is that the lyrics be transmitted. They are displayed (from text files) on an external monitor. On the receiving side, we just need a smart TV that can connect to the internet and sign on to the Google Meet invitation.

It's the audio I'm thinking we need to spend some time getting reasonable quality.
-- We could have the iPhone capture the audio from the speaker attached to the Genos, but I don't think the quality would be acceptable.
-- Can I go from Line Out to Lightning In? But then how would I hear the sound?
-- Can I go from Headphone Out to Lightning In? Then I could hear the sound from the speakers.
-- What about using the Digital Audio Out port of the Genos? Can I connect that to the iPhone?

I'm interested in your ideas as how we can put on this remote performance without a huge amount of work on both sides.

Thanks,
Fred

Hi Fred

You could keep it relatively simple by just having one camera at each end - fixed camera/phone on you at keyboard and the Canadian singers (who could get lyrics from your external monitor located beside/behind camera), and a fixed camera/phone on the Arizona choir (who could get lyrics from pre-distributed and printed song sheet(s)). I think the sound quality via iPhone would be adequate - but perhaps you could test that beforehand. This suggestion is free, bearing in mind I have no experience whatsoever in remote conferencing, performing, microphones, cameras, phones, audio, latency, and the tuneful singing of Christmas songs/carols.

Look forward to getting your feedback on the success of your event, and the techniques employed in the New Year. It could prove invaluable when organizing remote singalongs in the next pandemic lock-down - heaven forbid.

Cheers
Phil
