hello all,  I fired up the Mac and when I got to this beloved forum I got a message that I have been banned as a user.  More precisely, I am treated now as a guest.

the message states that I have been banned and my IP dress along with my email address have been put on a list from CleanTalk.

I am now posting this on another old computer which means I am still a member here but not on my main computer.

this is annoying and inconvenient

Can anyone help me?

I also reported this to Alex but so far no answer as I realize he's quite busy.

regards as always

Ron j

Hello Ron

Yesterday I saw this message:

Ronbo reported the post About Forum Navigation, Categories, Boards and Topics

It didn't say what you were reporting, do you remember what it was?

I just clicked ignore on my screen. I figured you just clicked on something by mistake.

I am sure Alex will fix it.

Ronbo

Hi Ron,

In the old forum it occasionally happened that a certain IP address was suddenly black-listed for some reason. The user in question was then no longer able to access the psrtutorial.com pages, but was instead shown a "404 Error" page. You may have a similar problem.

If you access the Internet via a DSL Router, there is a relatively simple solution: simply unplug the router from the power supply for a while and then reconnect it. Normally your internet provider will then assign you a new public IP and everything should work normally again.

Many routers, such as my Fritz!Box 7590 AX, also have a "Reconnect" function or similar, with which you can easily request a new public IP during operation.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hello Chris,  sadly, your suggestion regarding unplugging the router doesn't seem to do the trick.

I appreciate the tip for sure.

usually a soft reboot of almost anything computer does the trick but not this time.

again. thanks  and regards

Hi Ron,

Restarting the router or using the router's "re-connect" function does not guarantee 100 percent that the provider will assign a new IP.

I recommend determining your current public IP, i.e by using a website like www.whatismyip.com. Then try again to get a new IP as I described before.

Best regards,
Chris

Hello Chris,

I unplugged the router for a couple hours and when reconnected the Ip address changed.

I also called my service provider and confirmed that indeed the address changed when I reconnected the router

Here's what the message says

Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!
Email address & IP address listed in Stop Forum Spam & Cleantalk.org
This ban is not set to expire.

What's worth mentioning is that I am considered a GUEST and not a MEMBER.
I am indeed a member in good standing, I believe. Proof of this is that I am posting this message with my iPad so at least I can communicate with the forum community.

Thank goodness for that, even though I do not enjoy using an iPad.

My service provider did recommend that I contact administration regarding this issue.
I have, but I patiently await a response. I know, Alex and his cohorts are busy, so I quietly and patiently anticipate an answer when it comes.

I thank you again for your input

Best regards

Ron J

Dear @Ronbo,

As you can imagine, our team is currently very busy with the global updates to the official PSR Tutorial website and resolving bugs on the PSR Tutorial forum. Our system automatically combats spam, but rest assured, we know that you are not a spammer. In fact, we value you as an important member of our community.

We always take feedback from our members seriously and address any issues as soon as possible. In the meantime, I hope our moderators will assist you while we work on resolving your issue.

The problem you're facing is related to your IP address and is not caused by you personally. Since you are using a dynamic IP address, which is periodically assigned by your ISP, it may change over time. These dynamic IPs can be used by multiple users, which can sometimes lead to blacklisting by systems like StopForumSpam.

Here are a few ways to resolve this issue:

  • Contact your ISP and request a static IP address to avoid future issues.
  • Visit StopForumSpam and Cleantalk.org to request the removal of your IP from their blacklist.
  • Alternatively, you can use your previous device and IP address to connect to the forum while this issue is being resolved.

Lastly, if none of these solutions work, you can simply wait until we have some free time, and we will make sure to address your issue directly. We genuinely appreciate your long-standing membership, and we are committed to resolving your problem as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
The Admin Team

I addressed this several times in the past when I was traveling a lot and had to use public hotspots, hotel wifi etc. : IP blocking is not effective and actually very user unfriendly. In the above quotes it is actually already clear that this action contradicts itself. IP addresses get "recycled" so there's a really high probability that an address, which is blocked, eventually gets assigned to someone who is a forum member. It is totally useless to add "cycling" IP addresses to the block list.

Hello Alex and Robert.

Robert, thanks for your response. It's much appreciated

Alex, thanks for your kind remarks regarding my status as a member here on the forum. Most appreciated.
I tried your suggestions to resolve this on my own to no avail.
My ISP does not issue static IP addresses to residential accounts, so that's out
I tried requests for removal from both the sites mentioned and resulted unfortunately in a non answer. They both did however reported that neither my IP address nor my email address was registered in their database and went on to suggest I register with PSR Tutorial. Of course, I can't do that because I'm blacklisted on my main computer.

So, the quest continues.  I will wait until your team has time to look into this for me.

No big hurry, I'm able to use the forum on my iPad

Best regards

Ron J
