Hi Guys,
On my previously owned SX900 there was a free expansion from Yamaha called 'African_CPF_SX900' which is not an available download for the G2. Does anyone know if the style can be converted to work on the G2 (taking into account there will be differences in voices etc)

DrakeM

Yes, you can get it to work in your Genos 2 keyboard. Do you have it?

It will sound different as you said it was from an expansion pack.

Will you like it? Who knows.

Hi DrakeM,

Unfortnatley, I believe the format is not the same for both keyboards. SX uses .CPF but G2 uses .PPI or .PPF. YRM will not import for G2 (see attached)

Thanks for the response :(

Both keyboards (Genos and SX) use CPF, PPF and PPI files:
PPF -you can load it to YEM no matter what keyboard you have
CPF -you can load it to YEM only if you have keyboard for which CPF was made (Install Target)
PPI -is pack install file meant for installing pack into keyboard (it can not be loaded into YEM)

Here is a link to the official web page for the pre-installed African expansion pack:

https://usa.yamaha.com/products/contents/keyboards/vse/pre-installed_african/index.html

Quoting the web page: "African (Pre-installed Expansion Pack for PSR-SX900/SX700): African pre-installed expansion pack offers 3 new drumkits including authentic, high-quality recordings of professional musicians playing talking drum, in addition to 10 new styles. New Voices and Styles packs are being delivered as encrypted data. You must use Yamaha Expansion Manager (YEM) to create a pack install file to load this pack into your instrument."

All the best -- pj

I couldn't find an equivalent African expansion pack for Genos/Genos2.

Yamaha Expansion Manager (YEM) checks the expansion pack model (SX900 in this case) against the target model (Genos 2). If the pack model and target model do not match (in this case), YEM displays the message you posted.

The only path to the style files is through SX900 (or the SX700 pack on an SX700). If the styles use the new drumkits, the styles probably won't play correctly on Genos2.

One can always try, but it sounds like a lot of hassle.

Good luck -- pj

Thanks for the response PJ.  Bogdan,

I have kept all the expansions from my SX including the instrument file. However, neither does me any good when YEM checks the pack compatibility against the instrument and rejects the pack as invalid for my G2. Who knows, maybe Yamaha will update the pack for the G2 at some future date - wishful thinking  :(

This is one of the pre-installed packs for the SX series and so will not work on other keyboards.

We just need somebody with a SX900 keyboard to download and install this African pack.

Then zip up all the styles and upload the styles to a BOX account and post the link here to the styles.

Someone could then download then and rework the drum channels (RHY1 and RHY2) to sound good and also substitute any other needed voices.

..

If interested, here I have uploaded African pack styles for SX700 -link will work for 15 days!
FYI: Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd style use custom drums in expansion pack (in Rhy1 channel only). All other voices used in styles are preset voices in SX700.

Thanks for the upload.  ;)

You may need to rename the zipped file after downloading. There are to many "..." in the name for my Winzip to know what to do with it.

Simply Rename the file with just one "." before the word "zip".  ;D

BogdanH

Ah yes, you're right, Drake.
It seems that site can't handle slightly longer names (I have uploaded "Styles African pack SX700.zip"). As you said, simply rename zip file.
