Thanks for accepting me into the group. To introduce myself my name is Roger in S Wales.  I'm trying to help a fellow musician out.  He owns a PSR 8000 and he has an issue with the floppy drive. He did have an ex label  stuck in there and he still may have some debris in there.
So I am a trained  electronic engineer , retired but I have dealt with all sorts of radio, tv , amplifiers , computers in my 49 years career .
So my question is : is there anything special about the floppy in the Psr 8000???? Can I just use any "pull" from a PC? Can I get access through the trap door where I understand the hard drive lives ?? I was tempted to fit a usb floppy emulator but my friend is of a certain age and doesn't want to go that way.
TIA
Rog

Hi Roger,

You can download some service manuals here:
https://psrtutorial.com/lessons/workshops/ServiceManuals.html

Although the service manual for the PSR-8000 is not available, the manuals for the PSR-7000 and PSR-9000 are. In my experience, Yamaha keyboards do not differ much internally from generation to generation. Perhaps the available manuals can be helpful.

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, Roger!

All the best from Germany,

● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Roger, ...PSR8000 ...floppy drive ..that is a very old keyboard. No support, no spare parts, maybe best advice is that it's time to move forward to a much later model with usb.

Hi Roger
I had a PSR 8000 many moons ago, and a very good keyboard it was.

The Floppy Drive is a bog standard pc floppy drive
As was usually called the A drive on older pc's.

I'm sure you'll pick one up with no trouble at all

Don't bother with an emulator, 9 times out of 10 they are a complete pain in the rear!!

Yes many moons is right!
The 8000 dates from 1997, so ticking on for 30 years old. May have been great in its day, but in terms of arranger development it's ancient. You can probably buy a 1 year old SX700 for a few hundred and it would be light years better. Is it worth messing with? Something else will go soon.
