New YTube video from A&C Hamilton comparing the sound quality of Genos1 vs SX900. I like this video as you can definitely hear the quality difference in the sound. There is no piano voice comparison here. He commented that if you play an SX900 and never heard a Genos before you might think the SX900 is a great sounding instrument. That is true in my case.

Thanks for posting this video.

I'm sure AC Hamilton (and others) have a stack of used Genos1 instruments to lay off.  :) I agree with the presenter -- with price compression between a new SX900 and a used Genos1, it's worth considering the used Genos1 instead.

I know from taking Genos1 and Genos2 styles apart, that the Genos models apply a DSP effect to nearly every style part. If a player is interested in style quality alone, the Genos models will win out. Of course, there is SArt2, etc., etc.

I don't mean to throw shade on SX900 -- it is a good instrument. Competition against SX900 is made tougher by the number of reduced-price Genos1 instruments on the market.

Have a good weekend and take care -- pj  :)

P.S. Leigh Wilbraham put out a video stating a similar opinion (about one month after G2's release).

I thought the same thing, that they are trying to sell a bunch of used Genos1's

Someday I might upgrade to a G1 or G2 from the SX. I just don't know if the SA2 voices, aftertouch, extra effects and better sound quality is needed or worth the big cost for this hobby I have. And honestly the AWM samples sound quite close on both instruments except for that bump in quality highlighted in the videos. But the better pianos and 76 keys (I prefer synth keys vs weighted hammer) might be worth it for me.

I've noticed the online prices of SX900 at several UK stores has jumped from the £1700/1800 area to £2200/2500 bracket (AC Hamilton list £2000), I'd guess that's to make the second hand G1's look better value, just as you say.

Thomann have the sx900 at £1729 Inc shipping to UK. I bought the GNS - MS01 speakers from them last week - £277 inc, less than a week delivery, very pleased.

The quandary that a lot of people will have, is Do they buy a BRAND NEW SX700 or SX900 with a full Yamaha warranty.....or a Secondhand Genos 1 not knowing its age or history.... (could be up to nearly 7 years old and gigged to death).
.
For me the SX 700 and SX 900 arrangers win that one hands down. They are very good keyboards, and more than adequate for most home and hobby players. They are also far more portable and have built in speakers.

No Yamaha keyboards at present.
