Hello!!

And yet some more hidden gems??  I spent hours earlier playing some of them. The intros and endings are a real treat if you like that sort of stuff. If you are a fan of the 1980s you will like these styles.

Hello

Glad to hear you are enjoying the latest gems. What do you think of some of those intros and endings? Some of them are musical masterpieces by themselves. I could see using them to create some styles. Isn't that wacky??

I spent a few more hours today using these styles.  My Genos2 amazes me how it plays these old styles. I have no problems changing instruments in the OTS and accompaniment along with volumes and panning. I do this all time.  The worst thing about those and other older styles is the timing sometimes is to perfect. The drums sound fake because they are to precise. They are to rat-a-tat-tat almost like a machine gun. Here's where I need some guidance. Audacity has a function called "humanize" which made my midi files less machine made. It kinda worked the way quantize does, but the opposite.  Genos's stylemaker has a "groove" function.  Could I use it to fix things? It would be time consuming but might be worth a try?  Any other ideas on how to fix this??  Thanks.  -charley

Hello!!

Yes!  Some of the intros and endings are extreme!!  I'll bet they are more than 64 bars.  I'm finding some more of the same styles. I found out they were originally from a MIDI site in Canada named Pierke. I'm curious when these styles were originally made.  You can tell by listening but I think many of the styles originally had only 2 variations and less than 3 endings. Perhaps some of them came from PSR 8000?   Whatever they evolved from I like.  More to come...........   -charley

Greetings!

I finally found the rest of these styles. There are a total of 2400 of them. Here is the link for all of them.  -charley

Hello to all,

Nice comments about the styles I made mainly on the T1, one thing you need is the Chord charts to made them sound the best. I give these style to a friend? with the request no to share them but now I know he did'nt hold his word.

I still go on makeing style and they become better with te release of Style Magig Yamaha wich is a very good and helpfull piece of software.

Greetings Piet!!

You are to be congratulated with the highest honors for this massive styles collection!  These are some of the best styles I have yet encountered. The fact that they were created some time ago makes them even more special to me. I love when one can give styles like this new life and many can sound so good on current models. Some of those intros and endings are like none other I have heard.

You mentioned chord charts?  Are you saying there are recommended chords? I usually play in the key of G. No real reason but I think many songs, especially country songs, just sound better in G. Also, when I play in G,  I like where on the lower keyboard the notes are. I probably could get along just fine with 61 keys but I love the extra real estate with 76. I play full chords with my left hand set on Fingered AI.

If you have any other styles I don't know about I would love to hear more about them. I can't believe I have missed them all of these years. I hope you are OK with my link to download them. I will remove it immediately if you aren't. At least now I can give proper credit to the creator. (That sounds biblical, doesn't it??  LOL)    If you think I might benefit with those chord charts I would love to have them.   It just keeps getting better and better!  -charley

Awesome collection!!  Especially the extended intros and endings AND specific to a song which makes them really useful.  To be honest I have never seen song specific styles so these are a delight ..When I play them the right side of the keyboard needs a volume adjustment which is no real hassle ..Going to take a while to try them all out as my old S650 can only load and save a maximum of 50 styles (or just over 1,000kb ) and with the extended intros and endings that equates to only 27 styles ..Still they are fantastic AND they have OTS on the variations too!!   Thanks again

Hello,

I want to get serious now about something that is bothering me. I feel like I am getting way to much credit for posting somebody else's modified styles. I posted these styles as-is. They were downloaded a long time ago and I only recently discovered another old hard drive full of styles. I didn't do anything to them except make them available to others here. A few posts and several PM's make it look like these are my styles. People have thanked me thinking I modified them, which I have not. And now there is a link on the main page for "Charley's styles".  I've got a lot more older styles on old hard drives and media, even floppys!  I just want to be clear about the original source of those 2400 styles and future offerings.

pieterpan is that man!  He has a post in this thread. He is the creator!!  He deserves your praise.  He mentioned some chord charts that go with the collection. I'm curious as to what they might be. Maybe we can collectively coax Piet to show us those charts. This really is a most incredible collection!!!  I've only auditioned 200 of the 2400 styles. The ratio of "gems" to "not gems" is the highest I have ever seen and I am having a blast with them. Again..........Thank you Piet!!!!      -charley

ChrisH

100% praise to Piet (he sounds Dutch but I might be wrong!) I haven't found any that are "bad" There are a few where they have the normal 4 variations but you can assign new voices to only OTS 1,2 and 4 ..I guess that a voice has never allocated to OTS 3 as the button doesn't even light up so you can give it a voice.  As mentioned I have been relying on Music Finder for the correct style and tempo but using the preset styles means the intros and endings are too generic. Piet's ones are totally specific to the song and very accurate too so when you choose a song it sounds like the original recording!!

Again kudos to Piet for creating these and I still think that you Charley deserve some recognition for finding them and uploading them!!

"Would these work on a Genos2?"..............

Yes! That's what I am using. That's why I recommend newer drums. Whether REVO or the newest ambient drumkits they will sound 100% better.  Since these were originally made on a Tyros1 you can also substitute newer model's panel voices for the accompianment and OTS although most of these original voices are fine.  Have fun!  -charley

Hello!

Still having a blast playing (with) them. I'm up to 650 of 2400!!  I have to play these silly games to keep me interested.............

As I have been replacing existing drums with REVO or Ambient Drums something wonderful is happening.  That perfect timing and rat-a-tat-tat horrible existing drums I had before was gone. Not only did the new kits sound good but all the timing issues were gone. They sound so much more real now. Replacing OTS and accompaniment voices is yielding similar results but not as extreme.

I expected much more trouble getting the drums to sound good. I thought I'd be applying quantize and humanize effects which, can even be more tedious, to make it right.  Can or does the Genos2 automatically adjust or auto-quantize when editing drums or styles?   I can't believe just a simple instrument swap made things right.  -charley

ChrisH

Hi Charley

I used to have an SX900 but had to downgrade to an S650 as we moved onto out boat. I have notice that some of the OTS settings for a particular file have one or two buttons blank!!  What are you using to edit the styles especially the OTS buttons that are blank??
Currently : Tyros 4 Keyboard    Previous Keyboards : SX900, S650, E-373 and S550

rattley

Hello!

A blank button just means a voice was never saved to it. Many song specific styles only have one intro and ending. If you play the same instrument thru all the variations you only would need one voice saved in the OTS. Having only one choice for your intro,  ending and OTS means you won't choose the wrong intro, ending or OTS when you play the style.

I change all these voices directly on the keyboard. After selecting the new voices I want to change in the accompaniment, I change or make my OTS selections. Then I open the Style Creator and save the modified style. If any more in depth editing is needed then I resort to using my PC. Lately though my style discoveries are yielding much better styles in the first place. Probably because they came from newer keyboards. For a style manipulator like me that means less work and time per style. There is a point where it might not be worth the time and efforts to edit certain styles, but sometimes I am stubborn and will spend way to much time for the right edits. As long as I'm having fun, that's ok!!  -charley

Hi Charley

Interesting issue here !!  The Older styles (All 2400 of them) can be read easily by my keyboard (It's a S650 and normally reads SF1 or 2 style formats) If I put some of the "Songstyle" folder files from the CD MS collection onto the same USB drive my keyboard treats them as invisible They simply do not show up on the keyboard at all. I saw that all the styles in the FFFF folder have the song name followed by a ".S833" extension and I even tried renaming the CD ones with the same extension but they are still invisible!!

Has anyone else found this or can you load the songstyles from both the FFFF folder or the CS-MS collection under song styles??

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

The character string ".S833" you mentioned is not an "extension", but rather the so-called "Icon ID". This ID (a dot followed by one of the letters S or T and three digits, directly BEFORE the filename extension such as ".sty") determines which icon for the file is displayed on the keyboard. If the keyboard does not find a suitable icon for a particular icon ID, or if the icon ID is removed from the file name, the keyboard displays the default icon for that file type.

The "FFFF" styles provided by Charley (rattley) all have the filename extension ".sty". There are also some Multi Pad Bank files (.pad) included. Of course, these are not shown in the STYLE Selection display, but you only see them in the MULTI PAD Selection display.

If you don't see the filename extensions ".sty" and/or ".pad" on Windows, you would first need to change a setting to display all extensions:

However, the reason that certain styles are not displayed on your keyboard is probably that the file name is TOO LONG, i.e. contains too many characters. Unfortunately, I didn't find any information in the S650 manuals about the maximum length a file name can be. Many models, e.g. S950/750, support 41 characters (not counting icon ID and filename extension) for filenames, but there may be fewer on the S650. Files with longer names are not displayed on the keyboard.

Simply shorten longer filenames on the computer as described in the example below. You can also remove the mentioned icon ID straight away:

0367 Do That To Me One More Time.S833.sty

    shortend to
0367 DoThatToMeOneMoreTime.sty

    or
DoThatToMeOneMoreTime.sty

    or
Do that to me.sty

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Awesome Chris - Thanks

I have a feeling that the S650 doesn't like the IconID ..I have the other set of FFFF files with LONG file names and the keyboard appends them as they don't fit on the display BUT they work ...I copied "Achy Breaky Heart.S720" sty file onto the USB and it doesn't show BUT if I shorten it to just "Achy" it works fine.   I'll check some more later today!

Thanks again

Nope it's no the IconID or the file length it seems  .. there was a songstyle called "Words_BG"  with no index numbers preceding the name and no IconID but Properties confirm it's an ".sty" file but it doesn't show up as an option on the keyboard file load screen.

Well I took the sty file that was named Words_BG and found a file from the same folder called "Achy" (which the keyboard reads and plays) I deleted the file "Achy" off the USB and then renamed the Words_BG to "Achy" and the keyboard ignores it!!!

Guess I will ignore the style files that Charley uploaded from his CD MS collection and just use the 2400 styles from his FFFF collection! I was just interested to find out why the keyboard will not even show the file on the display. I can only assume that the internal file structure is different.

Hi Chris,

The file "Words_BG.sty" is an SFF2 style created by the company MS-CD Software. The file size is 20.1 KB (20,673 bytes).

In your case, the style file may be damaged and therefore cannot be loaded on the keyboard. You could download the style again here and test it again:
