Good morning, everyone. Here I am here with a new question. I am trying to record a song using a style via midi with Cubase. But unfortunately, I can't set the midi. I saw a video on youtube that explains how to do it but while in the video everything is fine to me it records horribly. I use the preset on the keyboard "all parts". In the Cubase track I enter "All midi Inputs" and in out "Digital Keyboard 1".  The external clock does not work when I go to record. I just don't know which way to turn.
Also I don't understand what Digital Keyboard 1 and Digital Keyboard 2 means in the out. But isn't it just one out? Sorry if I am not clear but can you suggest how or what to do? Is there a tutorial of yours?

Good evening, everyone. Sorry to bother you again with this problem but I followed the suggested tutorials and also this one which seemed to solve all my roblems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=D5oCSiWajQ4

Unfortunately despite following all the suggested steps I can't record anything. As soon as the recording starts there is a tremendous mess. However, I noticed that the recorded channels all seem to be in 0 format. In fact all the tracks all contain the same data as the others .... do you have any other suggestions please? thank you all

In Cubase, you can "dissolve" a MIDI track into its separate channels, one per track. Doing this might straighten out the "mess" you referred to.

You can try a different approach shown in the videos below. This procedure is simple and safe and the author also explains why.

The videos are from one of his tutorial DVDs and are a bit older, but it should still work the same today with all Yamaha keyboards and all DAWs.

Good luck!

Use the keyboard's sequencer, import the file into the DAW and edit it. Will that work?

Dear Michael, the problem is not dissolving the track, but it is the recording of the track. What I'm trying to say is that during the recording the sounds coming out of the keyboard are all confusing and mixed up and so I can't follow my performance. Then sounds are inserted into the recording that should not be there. Lastly I don't understand why in this video that I followed step by step Tiho records in multitrack and the listening is perfect. Yet I entered the same parameters.

Hi UbiUanKenobi

I don't use a DAW however a couple of suggestions.

1. Have you updated the DAW with the G2 instrument definition file.
2. Have you setup the MIDI Template correctly.

Dear Bill, kind everyone, the main problem is that as I play the song, the sound coming out of the keyboard is a chaos of indistinguishable sounds. The recording is happening on all the tracks simultaneously but they sound identical. As Michael suggested I dissolved one track and the result is that the midi recording is good, the sounds are okay but with added some that I did not use. They sound like the result of a metronome. Also if I try to play a single instrument without starting to record, for example a piano, together you can also hear drums or a trumpet in short it is a chaos. I'm sure I need to disable or enable one or more midi parameters but I don't know which ones. Thanks for everything I hope you can help me

Here's another potential problem. Are you using/recording Mega Voice parts?

Mega Voice instruments have a different MIDI velocity mapping than regular instrument voices. Plus, the highest notes are reserved for special "effect" or articulation sounds like strum noises, harmonics, etc.

Just a thought -- pj

If you have not done this already, I suggest that you disable the outputs of all of the MIDI tracks that you are recording into. You might be getting some weird kind of MIDI feedback.

Dear Michael, Thank you very much for your advice!!! Actually by disabling the midi output I can now hear what I play and record midi tracks. One small problem remains, I can't transmit Program Changes , Sy***, Control Changes. In the Midi settings of the keyboard I have the default one "All Parts"... so it should transmit everything, but it doesn't see them in the individual tracks.... Anyway a huge thank you you solved a huge problem for me....

Look at page 151 in the reference manual. Do you have the keyboard set to transmit Sy*** messages?
