Channel octave shift in Style

Hi!
What is the best (easiest ) way to do octavia shift on a channel. I have used "note limit high/low" in Style creator, but it seems a bit time-consuming. This OS is new to me. Is there a software for editing Yamaha styles? Anyone? Thanks!
Merry Christmas

hello AIS,
First that you should be aware of is that (style track) octave shift is not the same as high/low note limit. While octave shift does exactly what we expect, that's not necessary true for high/low note limit -in note limit result depends on the key/chord in which the style is playing. In short: for style track to behave as expected, we usually first set desired octave and (if needed) note limits afterward.
Style Creator has no quick method to shift octave for desired track.. because it's not really needed. The only (and the quickest) method is:
-select track and open StepEdit,
-tap MultiSelect option and select all notes,
-change octave for last selected note,
-move cursor up or down (this will change all selected notes)
-deselect MultiSelect
-done in 15 seconds  ;)

Yamaha unfortunately have never provided the option to change style voice octave changes.
Some 3rd party imported styles do benefit sometimes needing style part octave adjustment.
KORG however have always made this style part octave change available.

Buy a copy of StyleMagic.  You won't regret it.  You can change the Octave on any style Part within seconds and a whole lot more editing as well. There is a demo you can download and try before you buy.

Unlike the Korg, the Yamaha has a much more precise determination of what range the instrument will play in the Stylo. Watch this video, turn on subtitles.

You can also change the octave using computer programs such as MagicStyel (paid) and MixMaster (free).

Hi guys!
Thanks for all the help, really appreciate any information I can get. I know Korg well, and this is done very easily. I have some old styles where some channels must have octave shift, they don't play well in my new Genos2. I'm going to learn a bit more about style creator. I also checked out StyleMagic YA. It looks like this is a Windows software, I work mostly with Mac, but I will give it a try in my old Win. laptop.
This will be a busy holiday  ;) Thanks to all!

Probably worth mentioning (no-one did in this thread), sometimes its easier to do it on the keyboard itself:

Enter the step editor of the channel you want to change, select all its notes with multi-select mode activated.
Place the cursor on the note itself of the last selected note, lets say, its C1 (for the sake of example).
Assuming you want to shift everything one octave up, press C2 on the keyboard or use a dial wheel till you change it to C2
You'll notice that only this not has changed in the step editor, note, you're still in the multi select mode during this step
Now (here comes a trick :) ) quit the multi selection mode. You'll see that all the notes also have shifted.
That's it - job done, save the style and you're good to go.

Another way to achieve the same with computer is using a MixMaster Program, it has a built-in shifting events functionality: filter by channel and style part you want to shift, again select all and apply the events transposition command.

Hope this helps

Prolly just misread :)

Good thing about all this, is that this is doable and that directly on G2!

Buy a copy of StyleMagic.

No need to buy anything!!!!
As always, there is a FREE software solution from the great software collection of Jørgen Sørensen !!!! (http://www.jososoft.dk)
Jørgen serves for many many years the PSR community, with excellent software solutions for FREE !!!!

What you need is "Style Revoicer"
http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/revsty/index.htm

You can (among others) easily change the octave of any style part
Furthermore, using the same software, you can change the voice (program change, volume, pan, reverb & chorus amount)

Thanks once again Jørgen.

Hello everyone!
Thanks for all the answers! I will try out the different suggestions. I also like to try PC software. I downloaded Yamaha midi driver for Win 10 Home. 64 bits. Followed the instructions, Genos is connected, trying to install, but get the message "device is not connected". Under devices on PC, I see Digital Keyboard driver error. Which driver should I use for Genos2? I downloaded the file "um3141x64zip". Thanks!

WOW !! I never knew you can raise the octave of just ONE track using the Style Revocier program.

All the doo woop voices (use by the Tyros and Genos) are always too LOW to replace with a legacy choir voice on my S950. Next I run into one of the G2 styles use one of those Mega Voices, I will use this program to raise that track 2 or 3 octaves and be able to fix the track to work with my S950.

AIS

Hi!
Thanks for the help. Then I used the wrong driver. :-[ After I installed the Steinberg driver everything worked fine. Now I have to spend some time on the software. And who knows, maybe I'll get time to play a little too ::)

I really don't understand why would someone copy a style to PC (and back) to shift octave on single track, if it can be done faster on keyboard itself (where we can hear the result immediately).

Hi AIS,

This is a good video to help you understand how to edit Style using Software.

I can't use the Step Record option because the Style Creator program wants to Delete the track on the style if I try and alter it. I can only alter the style tracks that I have recorded myself.

BogdanH

hi Drake,
Yeah, I can't understand why Yamaha locked preset styles. Anyway, in that case I would just unlock the style on PC (I think Jorgen has made a tool for that) and do the rest of style editing on keyboard.

I could not get the Style Unlock program to work on the SFF2 styles.

And what can StyleMagic do with OTS that can't be done on keyboard itself?
-dont's say it's "easy", because it's already easy and fast on keyboard.

I could not get the Style Unlock program to work on the SFF2 styles.

Maybe you try the program that I made for myself:
Y-StyleRevoice
(click Download on top of the page)
-after downloading, unpack zip content into any folder of your choice, make shortcut of exe file onto Desktop and you're ready to go.
For unlocking the style no preparation is needed: just load the style into Y-StyleRevoice and click on Style unlock in File menu.
If you're interested on revoicing options then I recommend reading pdf manual first.

Note: I added style unlock option today and I tested it only on few PSR-SX700 preset styles -means, there's no guarantee  ;)

Please explain how to edit "OTS" on a DGX-670 on the keyboard...........I have been trying to do this from day one of purchasing.

Can you "Facetime" or something similar ?

hello Ron,
When I commented about OTS, I had arranger keyboards in mind (because this thread is in Genos section). That is, I have no idea what can or cannot be done on DGX-series keyboards. I made a quick check in DGX-670 manual and I can see that DGX doesn't have dedicated OTS1-OTS4 buttons as is the case for arranger keyboards.
Maybe some DGX owner can assist you. I apologize for confusion.
