Hi. I'm thinking about replacing my Tyros 5 with Genos 2. How big is the difference between them?
Is Genos 2 better made than Genos? Many of my friends claim that Genos 1 is much less durable than Tyros 5, they had to replace several switches (e.g. Break), while in Tyros they never did. Is Genos 2 better than Genos 1 in this respect?

My Tyros 5 with be collected tomorrow in exchange for a Genos 2 which is a significant upgrade it's a no brainer, if you upgrade and money is not an issue go for Genos 2.
Treat your instrument with respect and it will last as did my Tyros 5

The switches were redesigned for Genos, because while indestructible on Tyros, they also made a lot of noise and you had to press relatively hard.

While you had to press the whole button on Tyros, you only need to gently press the lower part (closest to the keys) of the Genos buttons. It's fast and easy.

Unfortunately, the new hinges on the Genos buttons were sensitive to breaking. It didn't happen that often, but more often than one would expect. Yamaha fixed the buttons for free under warranty.

We don't know yet if Yamaha reinforced the hinges or did other things to improve the buttons. All I know is, that until today I haven't heard anybody about buttons with broken hinges. Besides, if you register your Genos2, you get what? five years of warranty?

So you can safely buy a Genos2.

I had my Genos for six years and never had any problems with buttons or paint wearing off and mine got a lot of use during that time.
