Someone has suggested to me that one reason the G2 might be so expensive, is that Yamaha may have had to pay quite a sum for the copyright for a lot of the styles which are covers.

It's early days, but has anyone got a definitive list of the cover styles in Genos 2 and what songs are they covers of?

I'm expecting my Genos 2 to arrive this week.

Cheers

Check out the official G2 playlist and also take a look at Leigh Wilbraham's youtube vids on the styles, he walks through most of them including the intros which gives a good idea on what real songs the styles were based on.

I don't think there is an official mapping list of G2 Styles -> (real) songs, if there is, then I'd like to see this too !

Hi Andy,

In the official Genos2 Playlist ("PlaylistForGenos2"), in each playlist entry (also called "record"), the Style name that the Registration Bank in question uses is also mentioned. If you open the included Playlist files (.tsv) on the computer (e.g. in a spreadsheet program such as Excel or Google Sheets), you can see the Song names including Style names.

Here are some examples (from the file "Genos2 Playlist Ballroom.tsv"):

A Medianoche/OrganCha-Cha
A Walk In The Black Forest/Quickstep
Agua De Coco/SambaCombo
All My Loving/Jive2
Always/WaltzCombo
Amapola/LoungeRumba
Anema E Core/OrganRumba
Anniversary Waltz/Vocal Waltz
Answer Me (My Love)/DreamyWaltz
Anything Goes/QuickstepCombo
Are You Lonesome Tonight/VocalWaltz
Around The World/EnglishWaltz
Begin The Beguine/Beguine
Blue Moon/Foxtrot
...
...

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Yamaha may have had to pay quite a sum for the copyright for a lot of the styles which are covers.

I don't believe that at all.

Things that are copyrighted: Melodies and lyrics.

Not copyrighted: Chord progressions.

You will notice that Martin Harris creates original melodies for the demoes Yamaha put on YouTube for this reason. Also the styles don't carry the song name.
