Genos2 question

Hi all. I am new to this forum and have some questions regarding Genos 2. I am very dependent on a foot controller to perform various functions when I play. (plays live gigs at the moment with Korg) I see that Yamaha no longer sells the MFC10 but there are other midi foot controllers. Can Genos2 or Genos1 be connected via midi to perform the following functions with foot controller: Fill,- variation UP/Down,- lyrics Page Up/Down,- hamonizer On/Off.? Is it possible to add any number to a registration, and enter the selected number via a numeric keyboard to find the registration (the song you want) Maybe someone can inform me a little about this, (maybe a link) I have no dealer where I can get the info from. Thanks!
Kind regards

Hi again
Since there is not a single answer to any of my questions regarding Genos2, they must be difficult to answer, or since I am completely unfamiliar with Yamaha OS, it may be that my questions are just stupid. :-[ I guess I'll just have to keep searching online, maybe eventually I'll find some information somewhere.
Kind regards
AIS

hi AIS,
Stupid questions don't exist. I think not many in this forum are controlling pedals via midi and that's probably the reason nobody answered yet.

The reference manual lists all the functions that can be assigned to an individual pedal. But it also explains how to set up devices such as the MFC10 which use MIDI.

There is a Search function available within the registration display which will find registration names based on a partial or complete match. It is limited to 100 matches though. This is also available for voices, styles, etc.

Search online for "Yamaha manual library" then "Genos2" in the product box

Add.: then see page 138 - 144 of the Reference Manual, lot of assignments ...  ;)

AIS,

In the Genos 2 Reference manual whose link is provided by Gunnar Jonny. https://europe.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/5/2179945/Genos2_RM_En_A0_web.pdf

If you go to page 155, it will show all the possible assignments that can be made with an external controller. I think the reason no one answered you is because not many of us have the Genos 2 yet, and not a lot of people use a pedal board. I couldn't live without one.

I have the MFC10 on my Genos 1 and it works fine. As you mentioned the MFC10 was discontinued for what reason I will never understand, as it is a great pedal board, but here is what people are using in its place.

Hi guys
Thanks for all the info and link to the midi information I was looking for, really appreciate it. Yes, I guess not many people have received Genos2 yet, it is also quite expensive. I'm not sure what to do, jump to Genos2 or Genos1, which is now possible to get at a reasonable price. Thanks again for your help.
Kind regards

I think in terms of this pedal board, there's no real difference between how it's used with G2, G1 or even Tyros 5. There may be some extra things you can assign on G2, but everything else - including how you set it up - is the same.

I agree with you, they are probably the same. The only thing that is different was in the Tyros 5 you had a tab named MFC10 that made setting up the MFC10 100 times easier. The Genos 1 eliminated this feature which made setting up the pedal board much more difficult, but it is still doable. I am not sure if they went back to that feature or not on the Genos 2, probably not, seeing as they discontinued the MFC10.

Both G1 and G2 have a page title "external controller" in the MIDI setup which does exactly the same thing as the T5 MFC10 page. The G1 and G2 manuals even have a little picture which looks pretty much like an MFC10 to me ...!

Sorry, but I have another question. I have a USB stick with all my lyrics, txt. files. When I save a registration with a txt. file from the USB stick, will it then be saved with the registration and displayed even if the USB is disconnected. Or must all txt files first be stored into Genos internal memory in a folder? Thanks!

Hello AIS

I don't believe that would work. if the USB is not connected the registration will not be able to find the lyrics you want....... you might consider copying your files to the user drive which is always there at your beck and call

Hi AIS,

In registrations, only links to the files used in them (e.g. style, multi pad, MIDI file, audio file, TXT file) are memorized, i.e. not the file content itself. If they are not Preset files, the exact file path is memorized in the registration. For example, if the file "Songname.txt" is linked, which is located on the USB stick in the "My Textfiles" folder, the file path in the registration would look like this: "I:/My Textfiles/Songname.txt".

If you create a folder "My Textfiles" in the Text File Selection display in the User drive and save the TXT file mentioned there, the file path would look like this: "C:/TEXT/My Textfiles/Songname.txt". (The "TEXT" folder is a folder in the User drive that is predetermined by the System.)

The registration that was created to call up the text file on the USB stick ("I:/...") would definitely have to be changed in order to call up the TXT file from the User drive ("C:/TEXT/..."). This means, files linked in registrations may not be subsequently moved or renamed, otherwise they can no longer be found by the registrations.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Hi
Thanks for all the help, it was as I thought that txt files must be saved on the user drive before the usb can be disconnected. I have to do the same on my current keyboard. I am now watching every video I can find on YouTube that can help me learn how the Yamaha OS works. It's different from the Korg OS which I know quite well. I'll have to spend some time studying.
Kind regards
