Format Problems with WAV Files on USB in Songs

Hi Guys,

I have had this problem before. Today, I recorded something on my piano through the DAW of my laptop, and I exported the file as 44.1, 16 bit, WAV. When I put the file in my flash drive and tried to play on the G2 through the song player, I got the message that the file format is not supported. I have done this before on G1, and sometimes the file is recognized and sometimes not. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I then installed it on one of the pads of my Roland Fantom 08, and it worked perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

You could try some of the other numerical modes instead of 16 bit: 24 bit, 32 bit, float32, float64.

Thanks. Does this mean you haven't had this problem? This is the format suggested in the owners' manual.

Hi Beth,

The format of the WAV files has to be:

44.1 kHz Sampling rate
16-bit Resolution
Stereo
.wav File extension

Note that MONO files are not supported. Maybe this is the error.

Best regards,
Chris

I redid it, and it worked this time. I have no idea, but my guess is that the DAW automatically changed my format to 48 from 44. This time, I changed it back when I exported the file, and it worked. Yikes. Thanks so much.

Hi Beth,

I'm glad that it's working now!

In such cases, it is best to check again the exact format of the non-working WAV files. It is always possible to export a stereo recording as a MONO WAV file, and then, as I said, it would not work in this case.

It is important to know that MP3 files can also be played in the Song players A and B (see the manual for possible MP3 formats), but only WAV files (in the format mentioned) can be used in Audio Link Multi Pads.

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks for the tips. Actually I have no idea yet about using a file in the pads. I am buried in all the features and confused already. Grin. Even though I had a Genos1 years ago, there was SO much I didn't even try. Now I'm trying.

No, I was just suggesting an experiment.

I would definitely take Chris's word over mine for most things related to arranger keyboards.

I've been burned by this SO many times. :)

It's usually because some setting in the DAW got changed and the file is MONO not stereo. The arrangers are very picky about WAV format and it has to be exact.

Hope you're having a blast!

Dealing with anything tech-related involves a lot of feeling stupid. But then you figure out what's going on and you feel smart again. I have spent a good part of my life feeling stupid about some tech problem I was dealing with, but I have learned to ignore that feeling and concentrate on the problem instead.

Too many people allow an aversion to feeling stupid to prevent them from getting good at tech. You need to embrace the stupidity... :D

I agree 100%. And I do. I usually persevere almost beyond reason. Ha ha. The best part is when Sweetwater Tech Support spends days trying to solve the problem and can't. Then, whew, I let go and look for another solution.
