So, I am not a huge fan of Michael Jackson but I do like some of his stuff, and with all the amount of arrangers that's now so advanced, you would have thought there would be a style to play Thriller; being part of the best selling album of all time. I haven't ever heard any style close to it on any arranger. I find that very odd.

Yes, Stranger in Moscow also would be good. Styles4k.com has the Billie Jean style

Exactly this. I think we got BillyJ and the Earth Song. There's so many cool funky & rock stuff that could have been included.

Some M Mackson styles in Genos format to find here:

Hey Gunner..

Yes... I know this, I have the unofficial styles and I have also created it on my Korg Pa1000.. but nothing would come close to if it was made officially. Actually the one I made isn't too bad but it took a LOT of editing.

Definitely the hits from Thriller should be there as you pointed out.
"Another Part of Me" would be great. One of my favourite MJ songs.
But there are so many others.
Stuff from Bad "Man in The Mirror", "Smooth Criminal".
A lot of 80s synths were used so it would have been good to show off the FM engine on the Genos2.
Also some songs beyond MJ "Can you Feel it", "We are The World"

Lucky enough to have seen him live in 1996. A true unforgettable crowd crushing experience.  ;D

BTW, is there some copyright reason they cannot use the real song names for styles?
It's weird some are so obviously named and others are not ("Boxing legend" / "80s Orchestral Ballad")
Without Music, Life would be a Mistake.

What do you mean by 'made officially'?
All song specific styles are made by third parties, not Yamaha. Sometimes by enthusiasts, but you can also buy from commercial style makers like doo. I have found that the styles from doo are quite well made. Of course a style can never fully simulate a recorded arrangement. Backing tracks will get closer.

Sorry, I meant as a factory style that's part of the keyboard.

Another one that comes to mind is Paul Hardcastle 19, I'd love to see a style that could play that and many other great tunes from him.

Manufacturers can get close, very close, to original tracks when creating styles, but there's a fine line between close and being sued! The bigger the publisher/rights owners, I guess the more careful they have to be. Personal experience of rights owners (and no, I wasn't being sued, I merely asked how much they'd charge for me to publish some written arrangements) is that they can be greedy b*****ds.

Sometimes I do wonder if Yamaha haven't actually paid up to use material - 60s Rising Pop is almost note for note House of the Rising Sun - Animals version (though it's also public domain as a traditional song).

I'm friends with several of the team, I'll ask one of them next time we speak! :)
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Hello

Do I see a real or imaginary problem coming? All of a sudden people who never needed midi files before now need top notch midi files they can buy. There are zillions of free ones out there too. Finding them, just like finding the next style, is the hard part. I see possible copyright issues down the road as these "new" midi files start to be circulated again. 20 years ago I was asked to remove some of my gem styles posted here. At that time I never knew they were copyrighted and of course they were removed.  Has a MIDI file task force been formed yet?  If Led Zeppelin can be sued over Stairway to Heaven, a song they sang 50 years ago, it makes me wonder........  -charley

Thanks, Andy. Although I might be mistaken, Sony owns the Jackson catalog and Sony loves to put its lawyers to work.  ::) :o

All the best -- pj
