Great to hear these instruments played by a really good player. His re-harmonized version of 'Danny Boy' is brilliant, and that Sax solo...wow. IMHO it's not the G2 voices - it's the player that makes the real difference.

Yeah, he could make the G1 sound just as good.

Superb playing as usual from Peter. I listened to the entire thing.
I think the stereo channels are possibly reversed.

The pianos sound good. The Character Grand, Velvet and U1 are good additions (I have the latter two on the CP88).

Some other notable parts (that suit the type of music I like):

  • The first Japanese piece (probably should have been the intro to the presentation on Wednesday and have Baartmans fly out and play in a Japanese setting).
  • Purple Rain
  • The acoustic guitar piece was superb
  • The Free Style playing sounded good (Are there any more on the Genos 2 vs Genos 1? - it was not mentioned)
  • Careless Whisper
  • I Will Always Love You

Some criticisms:

  • Hearing the "In the Air Tonight" and "Top Gun" styles played with other music is interesting but also frustrating. I was waiting on the Top Gun theme at the end
  • Some unnecessary jumping around when talking about the ambiance and dynamics functions
Without Music, Life would be a Mistake.

It was certainly a wonderful end-of-year concert by the dealer Oostendorp (NL). They have worked hard to provide their guests/customers with a wonderful event. They certainly succeeded in this! And future grandfather  ;) Peter Baartmans has certainly shown and heard his skills again. A very accessible and friendly top artist.
Unfortunately, the 'live' sound reproduction  via the speakers was of 'low' quality: it was simply much too loud and therefore the various high-quality sounds were difficult to hear and drowned out each other to the point of distortion. You can judge it better if you sit behind a (demo) Genos2 yourself (which I have done for an hour and I am satisfied about the soundquality, keybed and the display: It feels good!). It was nice to be there. In any case, a fantastic atmosphere with a room full of mainly older Yammie fans.  ;)
My best regards,

Fully agree, Ton. Terrible PA system, or more likely, terrible mixer. Some people had to tell him the EQ was too much in the muddy range (200-300Hz) and after about 5 minutes it became a bit better.

The good news is, the audio you hear in the YouTube video comes from the mixer before EQ, so you hear it better now than it was yesterday live.

A fantastic atmosphere with 500(!) keyboard lovers.

Today I picked up my Genos2 at Oostendorp.

Great Maarten, I was told that the Yamaha Director wanted it as loud as possible  ;) . Maybe he thought all those oldies had bad hearing ;-).
I can collect mine next week. Don't forget to eat and sleep  ;)
My best regards,
Ton

Right John, saw him live lot of years ago. On another podium was Candy Dulfer. The 'Real instruments' can never be copied: allthought it comes sooo close. But moving a snare of a guitar and the attack is someting else than hitting the keys of a guitar-sound on keyboard. Must confess, with the nowadays technique (and playing skills!) you can hardly hear some difference so now and then.
My best regards,
Ton
