  ---- Mike,
Currently there are Voice lists for  Genos, Genos2, PSR-A5000,  PSR-SX600 / 700 / 900

---- Lee,
Great, glad you have it working!  Now all we need are some in-depth tutorials on how to fully use this app!
The "Easy" mode works to a certain extent,  as a start,  but we really have to manually edit the Style.

Thanks and agreed, Jerry. Think of the other possibilities where users can share their newly created styles.

Most of the current Genos styles are very good but they could be edited to make them better. This long awaited software is perfect for that. For example, in the Acoustic Jazz style, there is one bass note that reverts to a minor pentatonic - away from the major pentatonic, which is acceptable but not for some songs. This new software will make such edits easy, instead of hunting for each of those notes using the current editor on board the Genos.

What keyboards are currently compatible with this new app - CVP series?
Mike

I saw the file with the voices. This patch file could be made for any Yamaha keyboard that can play SFF2 styles. I'm sure this software creates only SFF2 styles.
I don't know if CVP plays SFF2 style, but if so, having datalist of voices (MSB, LSB, PC numbers and Voice Name) this can be done.

Vali

Sadly, you can't open and edit style files in this new utility; you can open midi files and save style files.

Nuts! So, where did the style come from in the demo video at https://youtu.be/yYfPbMFM5wo?si=K27ZRdmhwObGNCXp
I can only assume her MIDI file was created from scratch? If so, that's a major deal breaker. There's a huge difference between editing an already built style and having to create one from scratch. I guess there really is no free lunch :(.

Ha. It seems there's more attention being paid to the free MIDI to Style converter than to the G2 itself. We do love free stuff (especially compared to the ~$5700 cost of a G2).
I'm betting YAMAHA could have given us this converter way before now for existing arrangers but instead waited to try and buffer the shock of what they want for a G2. Draw your own conclusions about that!

Lee,
I have it working on the SX-900 too. There is a "Voice List" folder that you can download that contains .txt files for SX-900/700/600, A5000, Genos and Genos2.
By default, it loads the Genos 2 voice list, so just go to the menu, and Import the Voice List file for any of those keyboards.
Jerry

I have a PSR-SX900 too, but where can I find the the "Voice List" for that device. Please give the link or a copy of your file.

UPDATE!!
I already found the txt file myself.

I have now spent a few hours on it and I am really blown away by the result, you can create one song style after another, it is so easy once you know the program. I connected my Genos 1 directly to it, so you can immediately hear what it sounds like on your Genos.

I have already transferred:
- volare
- rocking around the christmas tree
- piano man
- how deep is your love
and much more,

it's really a matter of dragging it in and then adjusting the markers if you don't think it's quite right. It will take you about 2 to 5 minutes per midi file to create a really good style once you know this program well. The program does all the rest for you.

If you consider that styles easily cost 12 euros each online, then this is a very good and cheap way to expand your keyboard with all those song styles once you have the midi file (and the internet is full of midi files). so that's not the problem anymore)

considering the questions above:
- you can't edit the midi notes
- you can revoice existing styles by renaming them to .mid and then dragging them in the editor.
- the revoicing can be done with the detailed edit page if needed.
- the sx900 voicelist is in the voicelist download on the yamaha songeditor page, just select edit - import voicelist in the program and select the sx900 file from that voicelist download

the voicelists for the supported models can be found on this yamaha page:
https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/apps/midisong_to_style/downloads.html

Well, the Style converter is really a big one and opens up a new world for you and what is underneath the hood is what counts for the end results. The Genos 2 is ahead of all other arrangers by a mile.

Ooh I am gonna try this if I can figure out how to save a Style file off my Genos.

DrakeM

I am using the program on my PC. However I have nothing to select when I try to open the "MIDI Input Device". A drop down widow does not appear. Therefor I hear nothing.

When I select the "MIDI Output Device" there is a drop down window.

Does anybody have advice as to get my "MIDI Input Device" to give me an option to select so I can hear the midi file?

I have input a midi and saved it as a "sty". It does work on my S950 keyboard perfectly.

Do I need to have my keyboard connect to my PC in order to hear the midi play?

DrakeM

WOW ... I just checked and ONE style this program created and it is UNLOCKED for editing.  ;D

It appears we can now edit the guitar and horn riffs in the LOCKED preset Yamaha styles.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Drake

Yes you need to connect your Keyboard to computer to use the program
You would also need the Steinberg driver as well which is all available on the Yamaha Genos 2 downloads

That's a HUGE game changer!!!
So far, no one has mentioned where they get their MIDI files from. Building a MIDI file for a style is a huge task. If we can just rename one and modify it on the MIDI to Style software, that saves literally hours of work!!

The Yamaha Midi to Style is fantastic. ;D
I installed everything, entered the midi file and I have the style ready.
After slight modifications, it plays perfectly on my Tyros 4.
A very good external program.

Even if the keyboard eg the CVP705, is not on the list, presumably you could load one of the voice files from the nearest equivalent, then make the style and if necessary do a bit of voice editing on the keyboard. then it should work.
However, although it seems great, you do have to have the appropriate midi file to start from, and these are not that much easier to get than a style file.

Ive just done A Million Love Songs - Take That, followed all the editing video from Yamaha and a few changes to the instruments used and sections changed- Perfect!
I think Yamaha have made many people happy with this and taken a lot of the hard work and frustration out.
Once you get the hang of it you will fly through creating styles, as Yamaha promised, "Whats your next masterpiece"?

Amazing results can be acheived with paitence and learn a little from the instution video and the sky your limit. Yamaha have broke the market,
not only with Genos 2 but this software as well!

Perhaps admin can create a section on this?

Hi Mike, a good starting point is the Yamaha resources site! That led me down some rabbit holes for midis. ;)

BogdanH

I haven't tried MidiToStyle yet.. one day I probably will. Anyway, I tell that in case I'm wrong in my thinking.

@Mike
I don't know CVP705, but from what I see, one can create voice txt file (that MidiToStyle understands) from DataList of CVP705. MidiToStyle already has few such txt files (for recent keyboards) which can be used as example for how to do it.

And here I agree fully. I've seen many posts about how great MidiToStyle works, but the result can only be as god as midi file. Same as many of us, I've downloaded a lot of midi files and let's be honest, most of them are only good for learning how to play.
I can imagine that MidiToStyle can serve as a good starting point for actual style creation (i.e. drum and/or bass sequence) which can save some time.
But there's so much more in a style than just copying few bars from midi file. For example, those who create styles know how important notes velocities are when S.Art voices are used (not to mention MegaVoices). No, I can't imagine a style created that way to be used for serious playing.

I managed to build the file for CVP-900.
Below is the link to file which will work on Midi Song to Style converter software.

If anyone had the need of some list, please say.

PS: I added "CVP-900" to each record to see which keybord you have loaded.

Edit: It is very simple to add also Custom packs or Expansion Packs  ;D

HI Drake, I use this: https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth
Greatly improves MIDI quality (I use it for karaoke). It requires Soundfont, the best ones for my use are these: Giant Soundfont or FluidR3_GM (on the page there are also links to download the soundfont but I can also share them). The improvement is notable over the generic MIDI format. From the Virtualmidi settings you load Soundfont and activate and deactivate it with a click. The program is free (you can possibly make a donation which is not obligatory). Peter
PS you must then select the MIDI output,  you will find "Virtualmidi" in the drop down window after installing it.

Hi Vali

Do you know what the p number (p2 or p3) is for in the voice list file? How do you decide which p number to assign to each bank of voices?

Otherwise, it looks straightforward to me how to create a custom voic elist file.

Many thanks
