It would be good to know what's in the complete Genos Soundpack.
According to what they said it contains voices, styles not included on the original Genos.
They should be compatible all be it without the enhancements that are not on Genos.
The reverb thing looks like software so could be included in some future firmware update for G1.

I don't know it it is possible to give us the reverb you refer to, however even if it was possible Yamaha are not that stupid to give it to us.

I think you've got it the wrong way around. The Complete Genos pack comprises all the stuff from Genos that wasn't carried across to Genos 2. So you'd install that to make sure that everything that you did have, you still have.
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

So it seems they pushed out G1 wave content to make way for G2 wave content, then give you back the missing G1 wave content via an expansion.

They could have just offered the new G2 wave content as an expansion, available for both G1 and G2. But that's marketing for you I suppose.

No, what they said that the G2 has voices, styles that they did not put on G1, something like 200+ extra. What is not on G2 is available on their website that was on G1.
My question is, those 200+ voices, styles that are not on G1 but on G2, could they be put on G1? Maybe when they upload the soundpack for G2 as they did with G1 could be used. Although they say they have all been enhanced for G2. Backwards compatibility in affect.

Those 200+ on G2 but not G1 *could* be put in an expansion pack for G1 (except for the FM ones)

But they won't be. New voices added to a newer model are never made available to earlier models.

I would say almost all of the functionality of the new Genos, bar the pretty lights and physical changes to the display, could have been implemented on Genos 1 via a firmware update.  Even the FM sound generation, pretty sure it could use the sound generator chips in G1 (of which there are 2) to add FM and as for the new sounds and styles, there's expansion RAM that could potentially offer those including new styles.  The reverb could probably also be implemented in the G1 DSPs, unless Yamaha has upgraded the internal hardware significantly.  HDMI output can be achieved through the appropriate dongle plugged into the USB socket on G1, the looper we already have and could be assigned a shortcut key.  As for the ambient drums, again software could manage that along with some expansion memory and existing SSD storage.   It's a great increment for anyone first to buying a Genos, but currently at over £5K in the UK versus what you would be able to trade in a G1 for, it's definitely not an upgrade for me.  My MODX covers the FM territory (lots more FM sounds and of course editing), the displays on G1 are perfectly fine for me, and I still haven't exhausted the potential of G1 musically.  Looking forward to seeing what the future holds though.

A number of good points in this thread. We will soon know the exact content within the Genos Complete expansion pack and whether it is worth installing it on G1.

Maybe.

IC manufacturers put chips through extensive quality assurance (QA). Chip designs are modular. Sometimes a flawed chip can be rescued by fusing off the flawed subsystem. The reduced capability chip is sold off and deployed without the capabilities of the subsystem.

The Genos1 SWP70s have the FM hardware engine. It's possible that Yamaha tested and sorted SWP70s. SWP70 chips with a failed FM engine went into Genos1 which had no requirement for FM support. Yamaha will probably never come clean about what they do or don't do in QA.

The REVelation reverb may need more DSP RAM than what is provided in Genos1.

Good observations -- pj
