Production costs, I guess. It does look like an afterthought. It's not going to win any awards for design and innervation...

I had a new Renault 5 turbo many years ago, not much to look at, but boy, did it drive well, I bet this will be the same...

What counts for me  is, whats under the hood :)
I still reckon also they are teasing us and it maybe totally different to what you may think
WEDNESDAY "THE TRUTH WILL BE OUT THERE"!! ;D  "Tommy" "can you sign out with the Xfile tune for me" "I cannot whistle"!! :P ::) :)

Just posted some crazed musings.  :D

http://sandsoftwaresound.net/genos2-this-week/

The attached picture has been nagging me. The pictured G2 key has a taller white face than the G1 FSX in my studio. The height-to-width ratio of the pictured key is about 0.5 and the ratio of the actual FSX key is about 0.24. Did Yamaha really make a change or is the teaser video faking me out?

Also, if G2 gets upgraded pianos, did Yamaha add a DIN connector for the new FC35 triple-pedal?

Some things to mull over until Wednesday -- pj  ;D

Yamaha really made this change, as it is also visible in other videos (like the first teaser). This definitely is NOT a standard FSX keybed!

I am very curious what the two added blue-lighted buttons do, just above the three SA buttons, and to the left of the "Rotary Sp. / Assignable".

Just compare these pictures of Genos 2 and Genos (1).

We'll know in 36 hours!

Very very interesting. So, we can hope polyphonic aftertouch.

As far as additional buttons are concerned. But for me, there are 2 new buttons near the rotary SP button and one new above near the 2 octave buttons. It's details and we will see in 36 hours

More and more, I think there will be a lot of core improvements.

Hi PJ

Regarding the keys, have a read of a blog which relates to the difference in the keys. Scroll down the blog and read Scene 5. Interesting.

According to that article by epianos, the keys of the Genos 2 are exactly the same as the Genos (1), which contradicts pj's statement and mine.

I don't have a Genos (1) at hand anymore to measure for myself.

Oh well, we'll know soon enough.

Hi Maartenb

Chris is saying the keys are different.  The G1 keys have a small cutout underneath as shown in pic below, the photo of the new one in PJ's last post shows the underside is straight.

Maybe the new knobs are for the Chordlooper function?

Kind of summary based on the assumptions what the Genos2 (compared to the G1) will offer.
Regarding visibility in the teasers:
1. New sliders and encoder buttons (incl. LED lighting)
2. A raised display and mini display for better readability. Whether it will be adjustable remains to be seen?
3. Some new buttons: the function of which is still uncertain.
4. A minimal new shape of the keys. We'll have to wait and see whether that will mean another keybed?

As for the words used in the teasers:
5. 'something BIG is coming'. Could mean that there will also be an 88 key version? Will there also be a 61 version??
6. 'Dynamics', 'Real Ambience' and 'REValation' could indicate some new effects (Cubase Plug-ins) that have been added to the G2. (Software upgrade) This could also explain the added soundsamples in the teasers?

I can't make more of it, do you? One more night of sleep and then we'll know. ;)
My best regards,
Ton

I love to see Style Creator from PSR-A5000, which added Section Time Signature for each section in style. Maybe after the Genos 2 comming into markets will be an update to Genos 1 which will add this function in Style Creator, too? I hope...

I would be quite happy with a 61 key version to be honest and probably use my CP88 underneath.

I hope it has something magical on board and not just the same thing as the G1; a system to convincingly create styles from existing songs or whatever.

I reckon this entire area is indeed tilt-able and can lay flat or be angled up to 45 degrees.
Hence the reason for combining these screens into one part.

It could be tilting, but it could just be the lines of the injection moulding. In another thread, didn't someone with some connection to a dealership say definitively that it didn't tilt?

We'll find out tomorrow. The bottom part above the dials just looks like it is sort of hinge to me. And we have also seen on the back that the moulding looks exactly like the rest if it were to lie flat.
It might not tilt 45 degrees and even that photo might have it at max I guess.

Or indeed it is just locked like that? Still, to me the design seems a bit strange with the hard edges on the bottom left and side if that were the case.

Hi,

As usual Yamaha will not disappoint, it will have a wonderful sound.
And we stop here because who knows what else it offers.
For now I see a new AFT (asymmetrical fake tilt able) screen. ;)
Let's see tomorrow.

Thank you for sharing Stijn,

Weight = 22 kg (it is the total weight, but does that mean it is heavier than the current Genos?)

reya

Still have the box for my original Genos 1. There the weight says 21 kgs.

Maybe the difference is caused by the weight of the tiltable screen mechanisme  ;D

I really don't understand Yamaha engineers! All Tyros had a tiltable screen, on Genos there was a lot of complaints about the sun light on the screen and that it is better Genos 2 to have such a tiltable screen, to help users. But they didn't... What means that? Yamaha don't take in care of users needs, only what they think is not so expensive for their costs.
:( till now I' a little bit dissapointed, I will expect for other bad news to be more dissapointed  ::)

As usual, I'm the last one on this Forum to wake up in the morning. (Anyone from Hawaii?)

Thanks for the comments regarding the key shape. I'm mostly crazy, anyway, so who knows?  ;D

To engage in further speculation -- if Yamaha upgraded the pianos, why not upgrade the action? Maybe a blend between hammer action and weighted synth action. They did something like this on Stage CP73 and Stage YC73. I'm not saying they are the same keys as Stage CP73/YC73 because photos clearly show they are different from G2.

I have my doubts about PAT, tho'. Moving to electromagnetic induction sensors would be a major, major hardware change.

Well, I'm always ready to let Yamaha make me a monkee.  :)

All the best -- pj

Hi Maarten --

Logically, I would expect them to be related to the rotary speaker effect. Looking at Stage YC as a reference, maybe one of the buttons is "Rotary stop"? Maybe another button turns the drive on/off?

The Montage M VCM Rotary Speaker parameters include "Background Noise" -- speaker noise for a vintage sound? Background noise has an on/off parameter in addition to Noise Level.

I truly hope VCM Rotary Speaker comes to G2 -- pj

If you look at the small angled area just to the left of the letter Y in the word Your, it seems to be a cut away in the mold to allow a steeper angle without causing a rub in the screen case. That baby tilts up, in my opinion.
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.
