One  sound only . A beautiful piano

Thanks!

Funny how some people think this is the arrival of the CLP-800 series -- even though the key shape is not a piano key and the volume/power button match Genos (gen 1).  :D The CLP volume/power controls are completely different. This is an example why some forum members (including me) are skeptical of Internet comments and rumors.

Also, please note the source of the video: "Yamaha Global". And please stop posting faked up rubbish from Romania. Thanks.

Does this herald improvements to the Genos (gen 1) pianos? Montage M certainly got a blast of acoustic piano voices.

All the best -- pj

When you compare the Video Teaser Image, with a Genos 1 image, we are seeing the same placement and position of control panel furnishings...

So highly probable it is a Genos 2

I definitely think so.

Perhaps the Genos 2 will also include the binaural piano samples found on the recent SH3 and TA3 Yamaha pianos.
I think that would make sense and tie in with the fact the guy is listening on headphones and striking exactly a piano sound and nothing else.

That particular sound is like nothing I had heard before btw when I played a SH3. It made a complete mockery of any other digital piano (including the highest end Kawai ones I have pretty much all tried and owned in the past).

I kept checking if the piano (a U1 SH3) was actually in silent mode! It was like I wasn't wearing headphones. It is quite remarkable to say the least.

You mean cheap PVC and expensive price!!
If the teaser isn't fake then Yamaha hasn't learned anything from Genos' finishing mistakes!
We'll wait and see.

The keys are still high quality plastic, but they are "higher", more the shape of a piano key. We get a new keybed!

Also, it seems the high quality black plastic for the top has a slight texture now, possibly nicer to the touch.

And that beautiful stereo piano sound... WOW!

Dear friends,

A few months ago I wrote an actual article of my personal and biggest wishes list for new generation of the Genos. I hope my option will be useful for you.

Here my article about What to Expect from Yamaha Genos 2 : https://psrstyles.com/our-blog/yamaha-keyboard-news/43-yamaha-genos-2-coming.html

Thank you So much

Hello!

This news about Genos II is what many of us were waiting for.  Now I can count my dusty pennies and see if I have enough.  LOL!  -charley

ton37

Genos, Genos 1.2, Genos 2.0, Genos 2.1, Genos 2.
In general these figures means a 'common' update. Does that feel good or bad regarding what we may expect?
I am especially focussed on which items Yamaha has developped the Genos 2 regarding to 'my/our' whishlist.....
My best regards,
Ton

@vitalog2010,

I read your attached article, I agree with what you wrote!!
My expectation was that at least the top finish layer would be a brushed aluminum like part of the SX900 and as Montage,
as well as the buttons of a professional quality and lettering that will no longer fade
A solid keyboard such as "Nord & Korg" from the Fatar brand is a big step forward.
No more Casio situations.
If one compares the current Genos in terms of finish with a Medeli AKX10, there is little difference in quality!
The prices of the new Genos will be high enough!!

Fatar? That would be a step back. The noisiest, most awful and most unreliable keyboards I have played on / owned.
Go to a shop and compare any Nord piano (Fatar) to the Nord grand (Kawai action) and you will notice a huge decibel drop in keyboard sound level.
Fatar seems too plasticky, I'm astonished people put up with it. It seems to perhaps target people upgrading from keyboard-based keybeds to 88 keys rather than targeting real pianists wanting a digital instrument, who know the score. Compared to a real piano, Fatar is a joke in my opinion and I have read similar such thoughts on PianoWorld.
Kawai and Casio are a step up (obviously Nord acknowledges this themselves due to the Grand), but I think Yamaha has the most realistic weighted keybed / vs reliable quality options out there.
Keybed wise, it easily goes from Fatar - Casio - Roland - Kawai - Yamaha (worst to best) after trying out about 20 digital instruments in the last year alone.

Even my Yamaha S80 lasted 20+ years, had been bashed around on performances, chipped on the sides
and even then wasn't as noisy as any fricking Fatar found in any Nord. You could play on it without waking up the entire neighbourhood (unlike a brand new Fatar).

I'm glad Yamaha does their own keyboards and takes absolutely no notice of that company.

The CP88 gets renowned glowing reviews for its keybed, why would Yamaha phone Fatar?!

Also after owning the PA5X, I think it is very likely Yamaha will NOT go down the weighted route with a Genos 2, even if there are perhaps multiple keybed size options (61 / 76).
I just don't think for the majority of players on a keyboard a weighted keybed is right. It is limiting for certain solo sounds to say the least and increases the weight far too much for the existing Genos / Tyros owners. Organ esque possibilities go out the window. Unlikely Yamaha does this.

After all for more piano based players, Yamaha has the CVP series anyway.

If Yamaha released a Genos 2 only in 88 keys (which it is NOT doing) with a fatar keybed, they would have lost at least 1 sale for sure.  ;D

Dear Andrew,
Apparently you haven't played a real piano yet??
The mechanic always makes noise, it's part of it!
My PA5x :) 76 has a fatar keyboard and plays great!
Why Yamaha uses narrow keys is also a mystery, there is such a thing as a standard!!
PS: So all Nord Electro & Stage devices use "bad fatar" sticky keyboards? So the real professionals can tolerate it?
I hope Yamaha goes in the right direction with the new Genos because I have it on pre-order. :)

ton37

Right.., does anyone has a leadsheet from the song in the teaser?  ;)
My best regards,
Ton

maartenb

He plays the first two notes of the Carmina Burana, just before the singing of "Oh Fortuna".

He just missed and hit the wrong keys. It should be a double "d" and not "c".

Leaving the stupid patronising ***e to a side... (if you can do that for one second at least - maybe not, I don't know)...

A 120 year old Japanese piano manufacturer asking a small plastic keybed manufacturer from Italy to start making their keybeds would be embarrassing and downright stupid and like I pointed out is completely unnecessary, as Yamaha can pull from a vast range of previous and current successful products to make a 61, 76 or weighted 88 key Genos if it wanted to. Yamaha's keyboard department itself is bigger than Fatar.

Why would Nord go to Kawai (also a Japanese piano manufacturer) to get them to add a keybed in their flagship Piano product, if it thought Fatar was great?!
Fatar is the compromise that fits in their compact products and it is certainly not the bee's knees if you are a pianist looking for the best.
Many will prefer an Kawai MP11SE for example.

Fatar clearly deals in piano simulation. Kawai and Yamaha deal with real piano instruments. Enough said.

I don't know why you would pre-order a machine if your criticisms on build quality and keybed quality on the current iteration are of the magnitude (and you are just hoping for things - keybed company change is definitely not going to happen!!) to the point why I question you are even here and if your pre-order is even real.
Why not enjoy your superior built Medeli and your superior keybedded Pa5x?  ::)

Crapping on Yamaha before the Genos 2 is even released is crazy.  :o

It will sell better than the Korg, regardless of you preferring an Italian keybed.
