Hello everyone  :)

I started converting the Roland BK-9 factory styles to Yamaha format. I completed the collection with the BK-7m and BK-5 styles that were not included in the BK-9. The YouTube demo videos where I could listen to how the original styles sound, were a great help. Without them, I certainly would not have started this work.
I used version 4.999 of Style Works XT Universal for conversion. (Thanks to Klaus Grosser, R.I.P.) I edited the styles with MixMaster, CasmEdit, and the SX-700's internal style editor.

This is how I did it:
- I converted the styles with Style Works, in SFF1 format. (I converted it this way, because it is easier and more transparent to edit the CASM section in SFF1.)
- after conversion, all styles are in GM mode, so they had to be optimized for XG mode (XG MODE ON).
- then I opened Style Works with the original style, and MixMaster with the converted style. I set the converted style, based on the voice and drumkit names of the original style.
- I listened to the styles on the SX-700. Where necessary, I modified the voices to make them sound better. There were sounds that were outside the sound range of the styles, and they sounded terrible, I deleted them. Some drum sounds also had to be changed to fit the style. I saved the changes in MixMaster (SFF1).
- then I tested all the style parts in major and minor chord variations (the seventh chord variations converted well). I corrected the errors with CasmEdit (SFF1).
- I did the rest of the editing (reverb settings, volume changes) in the SX-700, so the styles were saved in SFF2.

I set the styles based on PSR-S910 voices and drumkits (SFF2).
In order for these to be usable in smaller keyboards, I did not use S.Art voices. I tried converting Mega Voices, but it didn't give good results.
Where possible, I replaced the Percussion drum track with PopLatinKit or CubanKit for better sound. I did not make any OTS settings, everyone can adjust this later according to their own taste.
I rearranged the styles based on the Yamaha genre definitions, because the Roland had many genres placed in the same folder. For some style groups, I created subfolders for a more transparent layout. I started with Ballad styles, the first 30 styles are ready. I will upload the rest as soon as they are done.
You can find the styles in this shared OneDrive folder:

Thanks to the members who helped me with their feedback on trial styles.
I wish you a pleasant time! :)

I just created a new composition based on one of your styles (Billy Beat).

mezzoman51. All Voice & Style part volumes have been adjusted and well balanced.

Overall I think you have made a good job as expected converting from Roland to Yammy.
A time consuming task.

Hello mezzoman51.

I spent 3 hours last night thoroughly auditioning and playing with your converted styles. One can tell you spent a lot of time getting these right.  I have added many to my "keepers" folder. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing. It is only lately that I have realized how difficult stylemaking can be.  I only appreciate your efforts more.  -charley

... I corrected the errors with CasmEdit (SFF1) ...

Hi Mezzo,

Are you talking about CasmEdit by Evgeny Osenenko?

Which version of this (Windows) program are you using? As far as I know, the latest version is v3.2.6.1, and it's also SFF2 compatible. (See also the attached screenshot.)
>>> Download CasmEdit Setup by Osenenko (Latest version)

By the way, if you have an older version of CasmEdit installed, you can simply click on "Help > Check update" in the menu bar to update.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Of course, I'm using the latest version of CasmEdit. I used to exchange messages with Evgeny Osenenko ,
because I am the Hungarian translator of the CasmEdit language file :)
I think there is some misunderstanding here. It is the Casm parts of the style files that need to be corrected (if necessary),
not the CasmEdit software. Sorry if I didn't word it right in the introduction.
Best regards,

Mezzo
