New idea for psr s770/s775 and s970/975 players

Not sure if Yamaha will do it or not but the idea is to release a firmware update to add right 3 to them. And the screen display would be rearranged to accommodate it. The up/down arrow buttons below the screen under the voices would be used to turn it off and on etc. I'm curious can Yamaha actually do that. It be very cool.

No I doubt this could be done and Yamaha have moved on to the SX series now which is much better.

The question is not "could they" but "why would they" ??
Why would Yamaha upgrade older model keyboards, when they have already replaced them with new models?
Wouldn't make sense and never going to happen.

Korg updated the Pa600, 6 years after it was launched, but Yamaha doesn't think about us, their customers, that's why we don't have the software they use to create styles or super articulation sounds.

Hello, Let me disagree with you, I don't think new SX series keyboards are much better than the old ones because all the three models still have the old Sweet and Live voices for some of the sounds (Sweet Harmonica, Sweet Violin, Sweet Muted trumpet, Sweet Jazz Clarinet, etc) and that's not right, especially now that you can find so many free quality sounds and VST instruments on the internet

Yamaha never gave some candies at firmware update -it was always because something didn't work as expected (from Yamaha's viewpoint). In short, what we buy is what we end with.

-quite agree on that.
Main reason why I sold PSR-S775 and bought SX700, was touch display (I don't regret my decision). And besides 3rd RH voice & a bit larger memory, I see no other important advantages over S775 (which was S770 actually).

Hi Keyboard Master,

The chance that there will be firmware updates from Yamaha for the PSR-S97x and S77x models is, in my opinion, practically zero.

Adding a RIGHT 3 part would already fail due to the hardware (because the models mentioned only have Part Select and Part On/Off panel buttons for the Left, Right 1 and Right 2 parts). I rule out the option of operating the Right 3 part exclusively via the display. Also, adding a keyboard part would require changes in many parts of the firmware. Basically, a complete rewriting of the firmware would be necessary. Yamaha will certainly not do this for these models.

For nerds ...

The SX user interface code is clearly different (and more advanced) than the old S-series.

As a software engineer, I would rather have a root canal than enhance somebody's crufty old legacy code, especially when it doesn't increase sales of current products.

Korg may have a history of issuing upgrades to keyboards but Yamaha clearly does not. We know this when we buy, so it's hardly a case of shortchanging customers. We evaluate what is on offer at the time then decide. I imagine this is what you did - and chose Yamaha.
Frankly, I can't imagine that the thought that some unknown upgrade, to some unknown feature, in some unknown future year, might maybe happen, would influence buying decisions. So maybe it's Yamaha who gets this right!.

You could be right with the voices, but the styles sound better with the new drumkits, at least on the SX900. It is a noticeable improvement when I upgraded from S770 to SX900. One sound I would point out is that the Seattle strings sounds on the SX900 sound pretty good, particularly on the OnBroadway style.
