I'm left handed and I want to play the melody with my left hand.

Is it possible to change the keyboard function?

Nope, but I read this:

Researchers who studied handedness in professional pianists and string players found no difference between a left-hander's performance whether they were playing reversed or 'normal' instruments; both of them performed better with the right hand. In fact, many left-handers even preferred the standard playing position.

So just keep exercising, just like everey right handed has to do and take the advantage of a more skilled lefthand

In "Menu > Split & Fingering" you could change the Chord Detection Area from "Lower" to "Upper". However, only the fingering type "Fingered" is then available. So you can use the Left part to play the melody. If necessary, set the Left Split Point a little further to the right. (The current Style Split Point is irrelevant in this case.)

Please also refer to the notes in the SX900 Owners Manual, page 47 ("Specifying chords with your right hand for Style playback").


P.S.
In the Left part you only have one Voice available, so you cannot layer 2 or 3 Voices like in the Right/Upper area. Theoretically, however, it would be possible to control additional parts with the Left Part. However, this is not quite that simple. A special MIDI template would have to be created, and MIDI OUT would have to be connected to MIDI IN via a DIN MIDI cable (so-called "MIDI loop").

  All that is needed is practice and you soon get used to it.

I too am left handed, and can't even get my head round this idea.
My wife who plays a Technics sx-PR900 digital piano, is also shaking her head?
It just isn't how music or keyboards work.

Interesting question, but I am also left handed and never had an issue with playing the right hand. Agree with the researchers mentioned here from the other poster, piano & other instrument playing does indeed seem to make handedness irrrelevant.
