It uses YAMAHA EXPANSION MANAGER, but some ".cpf" files are encrypted only for certain models and are therefore not compatible (for example, pre-installed packages").

Hi Jean,
You need two things: Yamaha Expansion Manager (YEM) and "instrument info file" of your keyboard. You can download YEM from Yamaha's web site. For how to get instrument info file, see Reference Manual, page 135.

Once you installed YEM on your PC, run it and click on "+" button next to "Install Target" (on the left side). Now you're ready to work with packs.

Click on "My Packs" (top left side) and then on "+" button (top middle), to import pack into YEM. You can import as many packs you wish -each pack will be shown as separate panel image. But for start, don't load too many, as it might slow down the process.

To make installation pack for your keyboard, click on "PSR-SX700" below "Install Target" (on left side). By clicking on desired pack, you select which of installed packs you wish to include into your pack installation file (check mark will turn green or grey). At the same time, you can see on the bottom the content of selected pack -where again, you can select what you wish to include. For the first time, you will probably wish to include all content of selected pack.

There's one thing that you need to pay attention on, and that's the size of your final pack installation file. You can monitor that at the top of YEM: the bar shows you, how much of available space (keyboard memory) is occupied by your selections.

After you're done with selection, you click on "Save as Pack Install File" button (top right) to save your custom pack on disk. Make sure that, when naming your file, that you select "Pack Installation File (*.cpi)" file type.

Hi Jean,

.cpf files are protected (encrypted) Pack Project files. There are two different types of these files (both have .cpf extension):

1. The current "now free" Yamaha packs with .cpf extension are only compatible with one specific keyboard model (e.g. only Genos or only SX900). That means there is a separate .cpf file for each supported model.

2. .cpf files from third-party providers (e.g. CMS sound design), on the other hand, are only compatible with one specific keyboard (the one for whose Instrument Info file the relevant pack was originally exported in YEM).

So you can only use .cpf packs on the SX700 for which there is an explicit SX700 version. It is not possible to use a .cpf file created for another model (e.g. for Genos) on the SX700, nor is there any possibility of conversion.

By the way, unprotected (.ppf) packs, on the other hand, can generally be used with all YEM-compatible models. However, it is possible that not all included voices can be used on all models.

Best regards,
Chris
