New Arrangers in September?

Just noticed that BHPhotoVideo is out of stock in the SX-900 with an 'expected availability' of September 16. New model or supply chain issues?

Also, it looks like Sweetwater is back ordered in several Montage models.

I really like the workflow in the new Roland Fantom-0, but Yamaha sounds better. It looks like I will be waiting until late August now to see if Yamaha updates things.

Tyros 5 July 2013
Montage 2016
MODX 2018
Montage White 2019

Genos August 2017

PSR-S950 April 2012
PSR-S970 February 2015
PSR-S975 January 2018
PSR-SX900 June 2019

I am also waiting to see what Yamaha will have to offer. Not unterested in other brands.

as of this posting the SX900 is in stock at sweetwater. I doubt Yamaha will release another SX successor IMO. Genos V2 or something else maybe. Usually Yamaha will release a flagship then the PSR version to follow, also trickle to the Clavinova CVP.

Correct. They have to release a Genos successor *before* releasing a proper PSRsx900 successor (although they *have* released half step updates. EG the PSR2000 and PSR2100 were virtually the same board but the 2100 had an improved piano and nylon guitar. Likewise, the PSRs970 and s975 were identical except the s975 had 4 sample packs pre-loaded, and 256mb more free sample space, and the new half bar fill. Other than the 4 preinstalled packs (which were available separately except 2 oriental mix kits, but now are available anyway) the patches were identical.

Meaning they *could* release an sx905 with the same sound banks, but maybe more memory, that sort of thing.

But as the PA5x has just been released, it will take Korg a while to trickle down to the PA1100 (I wonder what they'll call the intermediate model? the PA750? they've already used the name PA800), meaning at least a couple of years before Korg has a new PSRsx level board (It was 3 years between the PA4x (May 2015) and the PA1000 (April 2018)). Meaning Yamaha doesn't even need to do the half-step upgrade til 2024? 2025?

We'll most likely see the Genos 2 by then.  After that the sx910/710 (or sx925, whatever they end up calling it). It was exactly 2 years after the Genos that the sx900 series launched.

Thanks for the perspective Mark.

I guess I will wait for August for any announcement. If nothing, then I may have to sacrifice some sound quality to jump ship and buy a Fantom-0 for a more intuitive workflow (for me anyway) and DAW integration.

Agreed - I own a SX 900 and really like It and many of its sounds - but the Fantom - more than any other workstation competitor has really got the user interface AND the whole workflow - clip launching etc - sorted.

And the mix of buttons faders etc on the board makes sense -

But frankly have never been impressed by demos online of the sounds in it - real shame - prefer the ones in montage or kronos.

But would probably still go for the fantom 08 later this year if nothing better has come out - because apart from sounds - feature and workflow wise its a no brainer.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the PSR SX and the Fantom/MODX/Montage are different categories of keyboards. I would imagine the synth workstations would be more for recording and sequencing.

At 10:00 see the ease of making drum sequences. Just click one of 16 buttons for each instrument in the drum pattern.More intuitive to me.

At 12:30, 16 sample pads

At 17:16, the pattern sequencer - I did not see anything like that in MODX -

At 20:45, the song arranger - I did not see that in the MODX

At 21:30, DAW integration - touch screen on keyboard matches DAW

From what I can tell, MODX does not have these features, putting Fantom-0 a few steps ahead of the 4 year old MODX or anything in SX, but perhaps I am missing something. But Yamaha has better sounds.
