Subject Registrations...I would like sensible feedback from other keyboard players.
I have played arranger keyboards for the past 50 years (yes, I'm that old).
Previously Editing & Adjusting styles to my liking I have been able to resave as a user style by just a small rename indicating to me that it's a favorite I like to play.

Now owning a DGX670 there is no option to save style changes as I have previously been used to doing because all editing has to be saved as a Registration (rgt).
Now for a registration to play as saved it has to be able to find that style...So what is the best known method of doing this ?.
Does the Style & rgt need to be saved in the same folder ?.Appreciate all feedback.

Hi Graham,

All I use are registrations. If you are using preset styles and then tweaking them to your liking within a registration, you will not have any problems. I think you will find this method easier then renaming styles, as you have in the past. The only time you can get into trouble is if you use some user styles or styles on a USB. If you move the style after the registration is saved, it will no longer find it. It is best to keep all User styles in the User section and link to them with registrations.

There are many ways to do this, I am sure you will get many suggestions.

Rick D. Thank you...Unfortunarely the DGX670 has only 20mb in the USER.

Graham,

I would then get a large USB drive and store the Styles there. You just have to be careful and not move them after making the registration.

Rick D. Yes agreed, I already use a 32GB USB for STY's & RGT's so pleanty of spare space.
I keep the User Memory for editing my Voices (VCE,s)

Graeme,

You can still do it the way you were used to - DGX670 has the Style Creator, if you open that function you can make edits in each style part, then save the style under a new name.

DerekA. Have you tried that in DGX670 Style Creator yourself because I thought I had tried that and found it would not save...
But I'll take your reply and do a another test.

Hi Graham,

As I answered you before, the style and the registration bank in which the style is used do NOT necessarily have to be saved in the same folder. It's also very cumbersome if you have to switch folders every time you load your registrations.

Just place all user styles (e.g. edited preset styles) in a specific folder (e.g. "STYLES" on the USB stick BEFORE you include the styles in registrations. It is important that you do not move this folder and the styles it contains later on or rename. You can save your Registration Bank files anywhere, e.g. all in one folder "REGIST" on the USB stick. If necessary, you can sort the bank files into sub-folders (e.g. "ABC", "DEF", etc.).You can move, rename, or duplicate the Registration Bank files at any time (by copying them to a folder.) The Registrations will always work, as long as, as said, the Styles used in them are not subsequently moved or renamed.

By the way, what is unfortunately NOT possible on the DGX-670 is changing the OTS of the styles. This is because Yamaha incomprehensibly omitted the 4 OTS buttons on this instrument. Unfortunately, you can NOT, as usual with other models, by pressing Memory and then an OTS button, re-memorize the relevant OTS and then simply save the style again via the Style Selection display.

However, the Style Creator is present. As you know, I don't own a DGX-670. But you should be able to easily change the settings for the STYLE parts (channels) in the Mixer and then save those changes as a new style in the Style Creator if desired. You then integrate this changed style into registrations, with which you then mainly switch the keyboard voices. Of course, if you only made small changes in the Mixer to the style parts, you don't necessarily have to create a user style, but can memorize the changes directly in the registrations. In this case, I recommend after changing the style part settings (e.g. selecting another Voice) to memorize these settings on all 4 Registration buttons. You can then make the Keyboard Voice settings separately for each Registration button, memorize them again with Memory on the current Registration button and finally save the Registration Bank.

P.S.
When working with Registrations, the OTS LINK feature should be turned OFF.

Best regards,
Chris
