Hi Guys :

01. I wonder how to enter SX900 preset styles in PRODUCER ?
02. Can all tasks be done in the pc or does one still need his keyboard ?

Your advise ( for question 01 your step by step explanation, if possible ) would be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much, JH

ckobu

1. Install the USB MIDI Yamaha driver
https://youtu.be/U9yOmmYcxxw
2. SX900 must be connected on computer with USB cable
3. Open Producer and select PSR SX900 (pic 01)
4. Create New project (CTRL+N) (pic 2)
5. Select Style (pic 3)

All tasks are performed on a computer but the SX must be connected to a computer to be able to listen to the original keyboard sounds.

WOOOOOW !
Thank you very much for your help, Casper !

I have only one problem though.

I have installed a copy of all my preset styles in the MUSIC section of my PC.

When I am trying to enter a style in Producer, it does not open that particular selected style in Producer.
The style = IrishPopBalad of the Pop&Rrock group.

I think I am doing something wrong but I do not know what I am doing wrong.

PLSE HELP

Thank you so much, JH

janamdo

Hi Jeff,

You are doing nothing wrong i think, but the producer program is only to be used via your keyboard
So your keyboard arranger SX900 must be connected to Producer  program.

Cheers

Hi Jeff
Janamdo is right, the keyboard must be connected to the computer. And of course, it has to be turned on :-) The sound you are listening to comes from the SX900 and plays the original sounds from the SX. The producer just sends all the necessary information to the keyboard. The Styles found in his list are only part of that information. The Producer cannot play on his own nor can he run those Style that you copied to your computer.

Thank you, Guys.

I will check the manual first.☝️

I have the impression it does not work like XGW.🤭

All tasks happen in the keyboard and not outside the keyboard, I guess. 🙀

That might mean : complications, maybe  ?

Bye for now, JH

ckobu

Producer and XGW work on the same principle. You do the actions in the programs on the computer, and you listen to it all on the keyboard.
Take a look at my 4 points and do it in order.

Hi Casper :

I have tried different ways to start with Producer.
Apparently I do not know how to proceed.
Sorry. It is what it is.

Wished there was a video available that showed me how to operate ( step by step ) but I am afraid it is not available.

I have decided to give up on Producer. :-X

Best wishes, JH

ckobu

I'm sorry you're giving up. If you want, we can put it all together because I have the will to do it. You first need to take the first step and properly connect the keyboard to the computer. This is under point 1.

Hi Jeff,

Perhaps you can look a the page of the developer in order to get more insight how to work with Producer

Mixmaster had this option also.

Hi Wim,

Which function of MixMaster do you mean here exactly? And is this function no longer included in the current MixMaster versions (v21r1.10 or pre-release v21r10)?

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Jeff Hollande

It is obvious my pc is connected with my SX900. The driver has been installed at the early beginning.

Great.

1. SX900 must be connected on computer with USB cable
2. Open Producer and select PSR SX900 (pic 01)         - post #2
3. Create New project (CTRL + N) (pic 2)
4. Insert G May at 2 measure and at 11 measure.
5. Insert INTRO C
6. Turn on the ACMP button on the PSR SX900
7. Press Play on the Producer and you should hear INTRO3 playing on your SX900.

I like to do the same with the SX600 , but the keyboard seems to be not supported by the developer of producer software  :(
The SX600 is definely a arranger keyboard what should be supported

Jeff Hollande

Good morning Janambo, Casper and other Producer, XGWorks and/or DAW Friends,

IMHO Yamaha's XGWorks is/was the best midi sequencer for Yamaha keyboards ever.
Since 2002 Yamaha never made an XGW update.
For Yamaha XGW is dead but not for many Yamaha arranger keyboard owners.
No SFF2 styles are accepted and only *.sty extensions are possible in XGW. :-X

BTW I am very grateful to all those people who made extra XGW patches, free of charge. Thank you, Guys !

A great suggestion proposed by Casper, as follows.

It looks like PRODUCER might be a very useful tool to make basic 0 midi files where all Yamaha styles can be entered without any restrictiions ( all extensions, SFF2 styles etc. ).
A great solution, Casper ! Thank you.

After the " basic " 0 midi file has been made by Producer, it can be opened in XGWorks or in another ( midi ) DAW  ( like Cubase, Cakewalk by BandLab or other Daws e.g. ) to do the final editing job.

Last but not least the midi file might be recorded as an Audio file, edited and mixed afterwards, if requested.

PERSONAL REQUEST
I would be very grateful if Casper could make a video ( for all of us ) to show and tell the viewer how to operate, starting from scratch, step by step, in Producer and prepare a basic midi file that can then be entered in XGW or another midi DAW.

I have no idea if my request is doable and/or realistic. Casper already made many very useful video's yet and only Casper can tell whether my request can be done or not.

Looking forward to receiving a reaction, I herewith like to thank you all for your attention, other suggestions and/or idea's.

Best regards, JH

@ Janambo
Plse contact Peter Wierzba to update Producer ( SX600  ).

Dear Jeff,

after reading this post, it seems to me that you missed my video I made a week ago.

https://youtu.be/WsmVxiN4F84

He shows you step by step exactly what you need. It seems to me to be a fairly detailed description but I'm not sure if that's enough for everyone else who may have less experience.
I would love for you to watch my video and tell me the exact moment (min:sec) which is not clear. I may be a little annoying and persistent to you but I would love to help you.

I tried again with producer and SX600 and i choose as instrument SX700 ( as recommendation of developer in manual)
Connected SX600 , choose SX700, choose setup: digital keyboard-1
Now play a producer song on PSR: (  see quick start guide ) : PSR ACM button must be on !
Choose : new in file menu for your keyboard : SX900 and take a 4/4  template, and add some chords in Producer (starts in measure2.1 )[/img]( it is the Vintage  Guitar Pop style)

Note:by choosing another style in producer , it is updated on the SX600/700/900 screen
Can you make it Jeff?

Hi Casper :

I beg you pardon, plse forgive me.  ???

I feel very sorry, very ashamed I missed your video. Age problem, maybe or an excuse  ;D ?

I am going to watch your video this afternoon , promise, and let you know the outcome asap.

Best regards from The Netherlands, JH

Jeff Hollande

Hi Janambo :

Good to hear you have found a solution that makes it possible to play your SX600 in Producer. SUPER !  :)

I am going to try your work flow ( this afternoon ) after I have watched Casper's video he mentioned in his latest message I  have been missing ... silly me.

I will keep in touch.

Bye for now, JH

Jeff Hollande

Hi Casper :

Thank you very much for the great video you have made recently.
This movie explains how to work with Producer very well.

Since I do not speak your language I need at least 4 eyes to be able to follow all details. :D
That means I need to watch this movie at least 3 times. ;D

But ... again : great job !

Best regards, JH

janamdo

Hi Jeff,

How you are doing ?
Did you managed to setup a song in Producer and listening to it from the SX900
Intro- -- etc --end
Add the chords to the songsection ( intro- verse-chorus, etc )
C-F_G-C to experiment with

Jeff Hollande

Hi Janamdo  :

Wished I was so far I could say : Yessss  ... but ... I have to say NO ...

Maybe after this weekend ... I hope.
Cross my fingers.

I am a very slow student though.
Age problem, I think.🤭

I'll let you know next week, I guess.

Kind regards, JH

janamdo

Hi Jeff,

No rush, try to figure it out in steps ..
It revolves on..
- open Producer on computer
- connect usb cable to computer from keyboard
- set  keyboard on
- ACMP button must be on ( accompaniment on ) on keyboard

Choose keyboard one driver in Producer ( Producer and keyboard can now communicate with eachother : connected)
- load sx900 template 4/4  ( via file: new)
-Push on play button in Producer ..  sound from startstyle ? ..i guesss not: add chords at thebars at position 2.1, 3.1, 4.1 and so on as much you like

QuoteHi Wim,

Which function of MixMaster do you mean here exactly?
And is this function no longer included in the current MixMaster versions (v21r1.10 or pre-release v21r10)?

I suppose Wim is talking about the 'StepRecord' View in the earlier MixMaster version 466.
This has been removed in a later version, I don't know exactly which one.
When I took over the programming the Step Record View was no more available.

I only have the source codes starting from version 496 that did no more include Step Record View.
I will see if Michael still has this source code, and perhaps take a look if in can be reimported in the new version.

In MixMaster when inserting in a midi file : 'PSRCmd' - Acmp style, Acmp Section, Acmp Tempo, Acmp Chord, Acmp Play ...
When playing this midifile in MixMaster with the keyboard connected to the PC, the keyboard will follow all these events like Chord, Style Section, tempo, ....
Style selection is only possible for the predefined styles in the keyboard.
If you want to use a user style then it should already been loaded in Genos before start playing in MixMaster.

Etienne

Hi Etienne :

Is it your intention to (re)build a MixMaster prog that makes it possible to create midi files ( 16 tracks ) out of the newest and older Yamaha styles ( Sff1 and Sff2 ) ?

Plse advise. Many thanks, JH

NO Jeff, that's not even possible.
Why not ? Because we don't know anything about how Yamaha does change the style's data into midi to chord changes.

But when using the keyboard in combination with MixMaster or Producer it can be done less or more.
The only issue could be the timing, surely for longer midi files.

Etienne

Yes I mention the step record view editor.

IThe latest version i have is 4.6.6.
You can download this version in the link in my previous post.
Produre had only a resolution from half measure.
It does not work flawless also.
With cubase chord track it is also posable  to control the chords in the keyboard.

Wim

Hi Jeff,

You can choose in Producer Select: style on PSR
- now you know the length(measures)  of the songsections from the keyboard style
- then use the smartchord feature on the stylesections to start with :on this way you can make a chordprogression for a songsection by listening to the chords : fill in these chords in Producer for chord progression
- Also possible to chance the key easily with the smartchord feature : to chance from key in different sections  and do some modulation from keys
- should be a nice new feature in Producer if instrument parts can disabled ( for a growing composition) and also the names of it be can written
