Hi Guys :

Yesterday I have installed win 11.

Had no problems to install XGWorks nor Cakewalk by Bandlab at all.

I have not installed Michael B's / Etienne's progs yet but there will no problems either, I guess.
If problems should arise I will let you know later today.

I would be very grateful if one of you could tell me the real benefits of win 11.

I see more cosmetic additions / applications but no real improvements compared to win 10, except a few extra ( not important ) gadgets.

I must admit it looks win 11 is faster than win 10 but that is my first impression though.

To be honest I prefer MAC ( MacBook, Ipad and Iphone ) for my personal use.

Looking forward to reading your input(s).

Many thanks and best regards, JH

Hi Norman :

I am surprised winXP is still working.🤠

I think XP would still work but it doesn't get the security updates.

Jeff I too prefer the Mac, along with my iPhone and iPad.

Hi.
I'm going to keep the Win10Pro PC's I have as it is for as long as they still work perfect.
Don't see any benefit by update and risk any of my programs to crash or at worst, won't start again.
But when I buy new, then it's a different story. 😊

Bill

Hi Jeff

Congratulations. however are you sure that you have the full Windows 11 installed.

The last W10 update that I installed came up with a Windows 11 preview after reboot, it looked very much like the full version but was only a simple preview of what it will look like.

I also thought that from Oct 5, W11 was available for new PC manufacturers to install, but the general public having to wait quite a while.

I'll stick with Windows 7 Pro for the rest of my life. Don't need anything else!

Hi Jeff,

Did you upgrade to Windows 11 using the internal update function of Windows 10, or did you do a new, clean installation of Windows 11 (from DVD or from a mounted iso file)?

Best regards,
Chris

I'll be updating to Windows 11 as soon as it's available to me; apparently it's being rolled out in waves, as Windows 10 was.

I recently heard about some Windows 7 holdouts who started having problems with software because their systems no longer met certain requirements, but they were able to update the offending component and get working again. Things like that are going to happen more and more often to people who choose to keep running an older OS. I still have an old Windows XP computer in addition to my Windows 10 computer and laptop, but I haven't turned it on in years and am not even certain I'd remember my login password.

I don't plan adding any new software to my everyday Win7 or my MIDI Win7 machines.  There really isn't anything new that I need.  I've cloned my HDs and have backup motherboards for both.

;D

Hi Bill and Chris :

To answer your questions, plse read as follows.

I installed the FREE win11 home version ( Oct 5, 2021 - after Microsoft's approval ) on my Lenovo win10 desktop pc I bought ( new ) in January 2021.

I immediately removed the "old " win10 version from my computer after the win11 installation. Why should I keep win10 ?
I was very pleased with win10 but I hope and pray win11 will bring more in the near future. Who knows ?

Daily I am still receiving ( from Microsoft ) - let us call them - "additional win11 updates ". Microsoft is calling them "parts ".

I am a dedicated follower of Mac's hard- and software ( MacBook, Ipad and Iphone  ) though but a win pc is a MUST for me.  8)

Very useful Yamaha win ( ONLY !  :-X ) progs made by Michael, Etienne, Juergen Soerensen and others are very interesting for me.
My XGWorks and Cakewalk by BandLab progs are also in win only.

Wished they were available for Mac ( like Cubase ) but they are not.  :-[ Maybe one day ?
I may hope so.
Wishful thinking, I guess. :o

All the best, JH

My windows computer at home is on the older side . . . . but working fine, just a bit slow but ok  . . . . . . no need for me to upgrade to Win 11 at this point.

Maybe if/when i buy a new computer (next year maybe) i will get Win 11 already installed.

thanks for the notice and have a great day

Thanks for your answer, Jeff! With a relatively new PC/laptop, there should be no problems upgrading to Windows 11 or performing a complete new installation. However, many PCs that are older than 2 years do not meet the hardware requirements, which means that Win 11 cannot be installed (and for better or worse you have to stick to Win 10). While there are ways to install Win 11 despite officially unsupported hardware. But then you have to expect that at some point you will no longer receive updates from Microsoft, which makes a Windows 11 system connected to the Internet practically useless.

@all
Many manufacturers of Audio Interfaces advise NOT to switch to Windows 11 for the time being, but to wait until the drivers have been tested with Win 11 or until updated drivers are available.

Hi Chris  :

All my previous win10 music progs are working very well in win11, my SX900 included.
No problems with the " old " drivers.

Bye for now.

Although Windows 11 is being released gradually we can download it now if we want it by searching for Windows 11 on google and just downloading windows 11 media  installer
I did it a week ago and started the download
I say started the download because I had seen a message of advice from them suggesting that it is better to wait for it to be offered ( in my area  Sydney ) so I decided to wait just in case there was a very good reason for waiting And stopped the download, perhaps there is some important reason, I want a good working system
I always update to new versions when they come out, always something new to learn but have never regretted it, and it's free so why not

Microsoft announced we could download win11 as of Oct 5, 2021.
I followed their instructions stricktly.

Download and installation win11 worked perfectly.

It looks like win11 is running smoothly on my pc.
I do not see much difference except some cosmetic changes compared to win10.

This is a first impression though.

Best wishes, JH

Well, after a few weeks I found out I made a mistake to install win11 so soon.
Too Early ! Many bugs ...

I deleted win10 after the win11 installation.
A BIG MISTAKE !

I love Mac ...

Nothing at all useful for me in Win 11, so not bothering. It will probably say that my computers are not compatible anyway - no TPM module - and I can't be bothered to do the hacks to get round that!

FWIW, XP is still a darned good OS. This PC was built with XP 11 years ago, never needed to reinstall and it runs perfectly. I have a lot of music software on that section, some of which won't run on anything later! I have a Win 7 installation as well on a separate drive and can choose which to use on startup. I could add another drive with Win 10 but I have a laptop and PC with that anyway for apps that won't run on Win 7.

The only Mac I will ever buy will be one to wear in the rain, or to eat with fries!  ;D
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Hi folks, I have installed Windows 11, no problems yet
Can't see yet why they did it, not much, just little things changed, doesn't make much sense at this stage

From what I can tell, Windows 11 is for the "gamers" playing on 5G.  It's faster than Win 10.

The way you can tell the pioneers of any new Microsoft product is from all the arrows in their backside. NEVER be the first on your block with such stuff.  IMHO.

Hi
Windows 11 is 100% rock solid.
Just knock out the things that you do not need.
You also need a fast computer in today's processor hungry world.

I understand the real driver for Win 11 was a drastic need for improved security, as there were so many issues, so it may have been rushed out. The problem is that some of this increased security probably requires checks on hardware meeting certain minimum standards and that might produce issues with your existing computer or peripherals.....
Mike

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi
If you get security telling you that a perfectly good program should  not to be  run, ignore it and run the program.
I hate scaremongering. I am the controller. Just make sure you have a legit program and not a crack program . They can cause memory leaks.
There are no real problems with Windows 11, in fact it is better than 10.
I get rid of all stupid programs and things that Microsoft give you and disable everything at start up screen. Also disable what you cannot get rid of.
Black Viper for tweaks and your away.
The best thing is to have a computer just dedicated to music composition.

It's not just software John. I have been told that it may reject some hardware as non compatible. For example MS initially specified that your computer needed a relatively modern processor - less than 4years old - and a TPM 2 chip to meet requirements.
You obviously were OK with Win 11, and that is great, but some people may hit problems.
Mike

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Mike

Ever since the Pentuim 4 days i studied the longetivity of computers.
You do get what you pay for though and off the shelf computers are not good for music.
I would advise always to get a purpose buit one. I also have a Focusrite 6i6 sound module first generation that still works like a gem after six years
I have a Internet  computer I3 and now 6 years old and i cannot do films anymore on it as Movie Edit Pro has really slowed the machine up.
It is only good for writing and printing and general things like watching football and using the machine as a jukebox via wi-fi nowadays.
If you have a computer nearly four years old  and not compatible now, i would go for another machine and get the best quality as it always pays in the long run.
Your average £500 computers are not that brilliant for music. Best to have a cheaper computer for general stuff and a dedicated one for Music computer.
For music about £1500 minimum for a decent machine with a good amout of ram.
What is paramount is to make system Image of all your computers to avoid future misery. Windows has a good system Image and recover which works great
It would be great also if we could make a system image of ourselves before we kick the bucket. I wonder who would recover us??? :P ;D

All the Best
