Can anyone recommend a successful way to organise sheet music on the computer. . I have scanned & saved lots of sheets & albums but would like an easy way to find them, for instance Is it easier to save them in a composer folder or in a folder named after the person who had a hit or sang  them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have one .pdf file per song, and simply store them all in one folder. They're in alphabetical order, so easy to find.

Cheers,

Get yourself a sheet music reader. Several very good ones to choose between but it depends on your operating system as to what's best for you. If your reading device(s) are Apple (iOS) then forScore, Songbook, are just a couple of suggestions. Read through posts at https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/board,55.0.html

If you are using Windows and/or android devices for display, as I do, then MobileSheets (Zubersoft) is my recommendation.

Most highly-featured sheet readers require a modest payment to purchase. For example MobileSheets costs USD13 - a one-off cost. Some others require a periodic payment to keep them updated.

With MobileSheets I upload individual scores by the song name. If I have more than one version of a score I simply append a number to the name - so "Amazing Grace", "Amazing Grace 2", "Amazing Grace 3", etc. Then I can tag each score by categories - so Composer, Genre, Performer (Artist), Difficulty, Tempo, Key, Year, Source, Collection, etc, etc.

Then it's a breeze to filter out scores by a particular artist, or composer, genre or a combination of these. Nothing is kept in folders. Then, if you wanted to make a playlist for a gig you just make one for a purpose. No restrictions on numbers of playlists which van of course be edited, re-ordered should you wish.

My personal setup is a Dell 13" 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop/tablet, with bluetooth-connected pedal to turn pages. I also have made settings to allow selecting a registration bank on my keyboard load the score on the display automatically by midi command. And vice-versa.

If you already have most of your music as scanned PDFs then you've done most of the hard work. I have 7000+ scores and any of them are available to me within a couple of seconds.

I strongly recommend that you get yourself a music reader - you shan't regret it. Any questions re MobileSheets you can PM me. Many of the users here are iPad users and they'll be able to help with iOS solutions.

Hope this helps
Phil

Phil has supplied good info.   I too use Mobile Sheets Pro on an Android tablet I have.    For my iPad I use Unreal Book and Songbook Plus.  Songbook Plus works like a dream with my Genos.

Thanks to all for your suggestions, I display my music on a programme called Power Music on a Dell 19inch touch screen pc it's great as I can display 2/3 sheets at same time especially good if it's an arrangement etc.I import it via Bluetooth from my laptop where all my music is stored.  Because I don't want to change this I may go with Fred's suggested one pdf for each song & then make an index for each album. This will no doubt take me a very long time but in the end hopefully will be worth the effort. Thanks again chaps.
