Hi there
I'm a tyros 5 owner and have played keyboards since I was about 6 years old! I made the expensive and massive technological leap to a tyros 5 from my old floppy drive psr keyboard (Which I still love )
Anyway as you can imagine the upgrade is mind blowing but also a little overwhelming !
I downloaded some of the other members amazing files to a usb pen, had an absolute amazing time running through them all and saving the ones I loved direct to my music finder.
The problem came when I went back the next day to play them and half of the files say file lost or missing (can't remember the exact wording)
So my question is " Do I need to keep the pen drive plugged in even though I saved them to my keyboards hard drive' or have I done something wrong? It's not even consistent some are still there some are not and it's really frustrating when they won't play!
I added them by pressing the "add to music finder button" if that helps I also changed the names of some of them if that makes a difference.
Also does anyone specialise in styles for the 2000's I only really play pop music as I'm an 80's teenager lol so I'm really interested in 80's synths/new romance type music  and modern day house/club music
Many thanks in advance for any advice anyone has to offer

Ps. Sorry if this question has been asked before I did look before posting but I may have missed it !

Music Finder is really just a list of
paths to registration banks, which in turn
are a list of paths to files and instructions.
When location or names of the files in this
Reg.Banks can be changed without this
stored in the Reg. Banks again
the registry will no longer find it.

Hi Holly

To add to what Vanzee has told you - the Music Finder does NOT use Registrations.

It is a simple Database of instructions to load a Style and set the tempo.  If you move the styles or change the names the address with then be wrong. Just like your mail, if the address is incorrect it will not be delivered.  Redo the Music Finder to link the styles to the Hard Drive and everything should be OK.

Thank you to both of you for your excellent replies ....I'm gonna read my Manuel and learn more about this technology....although my floppy drive was limited it was a lot more simple lol.....

I loaded a "MusicFinder" file from Tyros5
and also loaded a "Playlist" from Genos into my Genos.
With both I have to press a Reg.bank button to
activate the file.
When I press "Regist Bank" "+ & -" I end up in the
location of the Reg.bank provided by the MusicFinder or
Playlist that has been loaded.
From this I conclude that both the MusicFinder T5 file
as well as the Genos Playlist file use registrations.

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial forum, Hollyz3uk!

If you have not already done so, please download all three user manuals for your Tyros5 as PDF versions here (Owner's Manual, Reference Manual and Data List):
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/tyros5/downloads.html#product-tabs

By the way: I would not spend any time with creating new Music Finder records, because (as already mentioned by Bill) the Music Finder only uses a Style, sets the tempo, a certain Main Variation and, if desired, a certain Intro. And only the OTS voices of the Style are used.

Instead, I recommend using Registrations. Use one Registration BANK for each song title. In Registrations you can save (almost) all Panel settings (e.g. the current Voice and Effect settings of the Keyboard Parts and the Style Parts, Pedal settings, Split Points, etc.) Your stored Registration Bank files are automatically sorted alphabetically, so that you can easily select a certain song titile.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Eddy,

you are wrong here: When you IMPORT a Music Finder file (.mfd) on newer models (Genos, PSR-SX), the needed Registrations for the Playlist function are newly CREATED during the Import process (based on the OTS of the Styles used). A .mfd file does not contain any Registrations.

Thank you Chris for the clear explanation.
I agree that "mfd" or "playlist" files
do not contain any registrations themselves,
but do contain the paths to a folder with reg.banks
containing registrations that must be
activated by pressing a reg. button.
I can even load and activate these registrations
without the mfd. or playlist files.

Hi Vanzee

The original poster (Holly) has a T5 and the question was in relation to this.  Note the T5 does not have a Playlist feature like the Genos.  You are still talking about the MFD being related to Registration Folders - It is NOT.  As a new owner of a T5 Holly does not need more confusion.

Hi Eddy,

yes, a Playlist record (on Genos/PSR-SX) is always linked to a certain Registration Bank. But in case of using (importing) .mfd files from previous keyboards, as already mentioned, the needed Registrations are created (generated) automatically by the Import routine. After that you can also load these new Registrations directly, if desired.

Note: When you load a Registration Bank manually, you always need to manually press a Registration button. In contrast, when using the Playlist, you can set each record to load a certain Registration Bank and also automatically load a certain Registration (one of the buttons 1 - 10). So there is no need to manually press a Registration button after calling up a Playlist record.

Chris

@ Bill,
thank you for the remark.

@ Holly,
sorry if I confused you.
I hope your problem is resolved and that this
a little discussion has brought clarity.

@ Chris,
thank you for the patience and effort
to explain this clearly.
I remember there is truth in my assertion
in connection with Genos Playlist
and that Tyros MF is not the same as Genos PL.

I have a day off work today I'm going to download pdf of my Manuel as that's easier than holding the book open ! I'm going to master the registrations operations. I've always had registration buttons on my keyboards for years and I've never used them so it's about time I learned how my keyboard actually works I just play for hours and hours !
