Mr. Gary

I have decided to buy a pair of Adam T7V speakers for my Genos.
I've read several methods of setting up on the forum but apologies am still rather confused.
I already have and would like to keep the Yamaha speaker set, what additional cables do I need ? I've seen methods using the headphone socket for the additional speakers but can the aux sockets be used? If so I'd appreciate advice on the best cables to purchase.and installation.
Thanks & regards

Gary

Are you wanting to use all four speakers at the same time or switch between pairs?
You can buy simple 2 way speaker switch boxes which let you take two sets of of speakers from 1 input and either switch between them or have both pairs on. You just connect the normal speaker output from the keyboard to the box, and connect both sets of speakers to the box. There might be a small loss of volume from each set when you use both speaker sets together.
They are not usually expensive, probably around 50 dollars, don't confuse them with the much more expensive multi switch boxes that let you direct and select several different sources to different speaker systems.

Mr. Gary

Thanks very much Mike, I would like to have the option of having either two or all four speakers on, if you could recommend a two way switch box I'd really appreciate it.

I really couldn't recommend one, as it is not something I ever bought. You would just need to do an internet search. But they are simple devices so just reading the spec will tell you what it does. Or you can pop in to a store where they sell speaker systems and just ask. One thing that might vary is the connection system. They may not have standard din or jack sockets, some might use spring wire grabs. You know, the little toggles which work on bare wire ends.

Hi Gary,

you do not need any additional "switch box" in this case. Simply use the Line Out Main sockets (L/L+R and R).

Note: All Line Outputs to Yamaha Arranger Keyboards are unbalanced. So you need unbalanced cables. Balanced Cables can NOT be used.

However, the ADAM T7V has no unbalanced 6.3 mm jack input, but only a balanced XLR input and an unbalanced RCA ("Cinch") input. So you have the following options:

- Probably the simplest way is using a pair of "6.3 mm Mono jack plug ("TS" plug) >> RCA/Cinch plug" cables.

- To use the XLR input of the ADAM Speakers, you need a pair of unbalanced cables "6.3 mm mono jack plug ("TS" plug) >> XLR Male Plug". It is important here that the pins 1 & 3 are bridged in the XLR connector:
    - TS plug TIP (= "hot") >> XLR pin 2
    - TS plug SLEEVE / SCREEN (= "cold") >> XLR pin 1 & 3

Alternatively, you can also use a pair of balanced cables ("6.3 mm TRS Plug >> XLR Male Plug"). However, these MUST be modified according to "unbalanced" by either bridging the pins 1 & 3 inside the XLR plug (as mentioned above), OR you bridge the RING and SLEEVE contacts inside the TRS plug (whereby the TRS plug works like a TS plug).

- The most professional possibility is the use of a Stereo DI Box, e.g. Palmer Pan 04 (passive) or Palmer Pan 04a (active) or two Mono DI Boxes. The Line Out Sockets of the Geno connect with (shortest possible) Mono Jack Cables (TS plugs on both ends) with the DI box. From the DI box to the Adam Speakers you use normal XLR microphone cable (XLR Female> XLR Male).

P.S.
The Genos speakers can be set to be switched off when Headphones are connected to the PHONES jack. For the Line Out sockets, this possibility does not exist. So if you do not want to hear the ADAM speakers, you simply switch them off. ;)

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Maybe a bit of overkill, but offers a good deal of connectivity and extra functions. I'm using one for my recording DAW and monitor setup.
https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-CONTROL2USB-BEHRINGER-Power-amplifiers-Black/dp/B01KJ28QZE

- This would allow you to use the monitors with other input devices besides just the keyboard, such as a wired connection from an MP3 player or similar.
- You can easily select either one pair of monitors or use both sets.
- It could be used as a stereo interface to play back music from a computer to the monitors and as well record the keyboard or other input sources to the computer via USB.
- Connection to the Adam monitors would simply be a pair of 1/4"(6.3mm) TS to RCA cables(unbalanced) or a pair of 1/4" TRS to XLR (balanced) from one of the Control2USB's pair of outputs. Each monitor output has a level control so the balance of volume between the Genos and Adam monitors can be adjusted at the Control2USB.
- Two headphone outputs on the front panel with a volume control for each is sometimes handy.

A cheaper option could be a headphone amplifier which has a stereo input and multiple stereo outputs. This method would need a bit of thought on cables and adapters to get everything hooked up, but could work. The left and right outs of the keyboard would be connected to headphone amp with a dual 1/4" TS to 1/4' TRS type cable.

Hi Mark,

with the original Genos speaker system (GNS-MS01) this is NOT possible, because there are no standard input sockets on this system. So you cannot connect the Genos speaker system to a switching device like the Behringer "Control2USB" without modifiying the hardware of the Audio Inputs of the GNS-MS01.

While the TRS-MS05 speaker system is connected to the Tyros5's Main Out sockets, the GNS-MS01 can only be connected directly to the Mini DIN 8-pin socket of the Genos (similar to the connection of the older Tyros speaker systems TRS-MS01/02/03).

Oops.... wasn't aware the Genos had unique connections for the speakers, in which case your suggestion of the 6.3mm to RCA is the simplest and likely the cheapest means since the left and right outs of the keyboard aren't being used.
If he wishes to use 1/4"(6.3mm) TS to XLR this Hosa cable would work as an unbalanced connection...........
