Hi Guys,

When I sold my Tyros 5, I thought the copy of the MFD would have included ones that I made myself, but that was not the case.
I still have access to my old Tyros 5 as I sold it to a friend and he doesn't use MF, so it should be the same as I left it. Is there a way to retrieve these? I put a lot of work into these and would like to have them for the Genos.

Thanks,

Rick D.

Hi Rick,

the procedure is very simple, one file needs to be copied to USB. Ask a friend to do it and let him send you an MDF file.
The description can be found on page 93. of the manual reference.

Hi Rick,

note that you have to SAVE the current Music Finder state as a file (.mfd) if you hadn't done this before. Usually you should save the current state of the Music Finder to the USER drive from time to time.

In your case, the latter is NOT needed: Just connect a USB stick to the Tyros5 and SAVE the current Music Finder state directly to the USB stick. (An .mfd file will be created on the stick.)

I guess that you originally only COPIED the Preset Music Finder (file) or an existing "old" Music Finder file from the USER tab. As said before, you definitely have to SAVE the current MF as a .mfd file, NOT COPYING any already existing MF file. :)

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks for the quick answers Chris and ckobu,

Both of you have been a big help to all of us!

I did make a copy of the .mfd file, but for some reason, the records I created did not come with it. I must have copied an older .mfd, but I thought there was only one to choose from.

When this pandemic is over, I will go over to my friend's house and give it another try. He is just learning on the Tyros 5 which is his first Tyros and I don't think he could navigate thru the menus at this point.

The intent was to be able to get together and help him from time to time, but the pandemic has made it difficult to do.

Thanks again,

Rick D.

Until you manage to get to your old Tyros5, you can listen and use my base that I used on Tyros4.

Hi Rick,

the point is, that your current Music Finder status (that you made by adding own records) only exists in the internal flash memory (similar to the user-defined System settings). It is NOT automatically saved as .mfd FILE, but YOU have to save it manually (as mentioned) as a  .mfd file, if desired. If you don't do that from time to time (for example always after making new records), in case of a compete System crash (when the internal flash memory must be initialized), you would loose all your self-created Music Finder records.

So, either first SAVE your Music Finder (ckobu posted the relevant information from the manual) to the internal USER drive and then COPY the .mfd file from there to a USB stick, OR in this case (because the new owner of the Tyros5 don't need that file) SAVE it directly to the connected USB stick. :)

Best regards,
Chris

Chris,

I will follow these instructions as soon as I can get over to my friends.

It seems easy enough to do, and to tell you the truth it has been a couple of years and I don't remember if I was saving the content to the user section periodically or not.

Thanks,
