How To Stop and Re-start Style During Playing

A typical use is to have a one-bar break between the verse and chorus of a song while the right hand plays a few introductory notes. I suspect that I need to make use of the SYNC STOP button, but I can't see how.

If your objective is to "stop and re-start style", then why don't you just stop and restart the style. What's the problem?

Synch stop works by activating the sync stop function, just hit the button and it lights to show it is active. Then it works by lifting LH off the keys, and replacing LH on keys to re-start. Trouble with synch stop is that once you have activated the function it can stop accompaniment every time you lift your hand to change chords. I think there is probably a setting somewhere to stop this by setting the minimum time off the keys before it stops, but as I have not used the function in years I don't remember. Note that synch stop will not activate if you have the fingering mode in any of the full keyboard settings - one of the other reasons I never use it,  because full keyboard is my default mode. .
Another couple of ways to stop start--
- use a foot pedal to start /stop accompaniment. This is what I use.
- just switch accompaniment on/off at the panel like Fred says.
- use the break button. Its usually a better way-  to get a 'break' between sections. Dont forget that you can actually program the break in style creator to be as little or as much as you want. It could actually be edited to be a full stop, or an accompaniment stop with only a drum beat back in. Or alternatively, find a simple break you like, then copy and paste it into the style you are using.
These keyboards always have multiple ways to skin the cat.

Don't forget the feature where you play three sequential notes (ie C-C#-D) on the left hand to stop the accomp.  but keep the drums playing.  Very useful in some songs.

If you want simply stop everything automatic for a short while, use registrations, and set the accompaniments to zero on one particular registration.
It works for me.
I have a Tyros5/76 & Tyros4 SE XL.
My keyboard holds every song ever written. I just have to find them.

Following your logic, had my question been, "How do I calculate the square root of a number?", your answer would be, "Why don't you just calculate the square root of the number?"

No, I would have told you how to calculate the square root, as I would have understood the problem.

But when there's a start/stop button on the keyboard to do what you want, that's why I ask "what's the problem?"

If you are looking for a way to just pause the style say for a bar in mid song, why not push sync start when the pause is required (note not sync stop nor style stop) . The style waits and will automatically restart when you play a new chord. Seems the slickest way with minimal hassle. I do it regularly when evaluating different song setups while creating registrations (or stopping for inspiration or a cup of tea ;) )

My sincere thanks to all of you who've passed on your ideas and practical solutions to my question. Mike never said a truer word than, "These keyboards always have multiple ways to skin the cat."

Just to prove, if proof be needed, that I've learned from your posts, here's a snippet that I've just played - the end of a verse, a bar break with soft drums and a touch of guitar, and the start of the chorus.

A break in play

Hi Alan,

if needed, you can also assign the Sync Start function to a Pedal. When the Style is running you can stop it by pressing Sync Start button or the Pedal that is assigned to. (Sync Start is automatically activated again.)

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

I Just use the 'break' button and assign it to a pedal function which then holds the break for me as long as i hold the pedal down, this is easy and works very well with a lot of styles, for as many or few bars as you wish.

Obviously its not perfect...before the Tigers savage me!!!

I like this trick, its easier by foot ....and hard to do it by hand, it does not stop the style sounding but stunts the beat out of the tempo. and can provide some interesting sections/interludes in a tune.

Well, let me skin the "cat" one more time for you.

I have created two different pauses to slip into any style for such occasions. As I play Single finger mode on the keyboard, I can't use the 3 finger stop method. Even using that method does not sound correct the band never just "stops".

Years ago I took a soft sounding ONE bar ending (reworked it a bit) and copy it into the style. Now if the song requires a regular hard sounding break, I will place the soft sounding break in an INTRO slot. That way the break occurs and jumps right back to where I was in the song.

The second special break I created sounds the same but is TWO measures long. There are times when  you need a bit longer break BUT not a full two measures (at two measures the style will stop). I can place this two measure break in an ENDING slot and jump back into the style after the ONE measure pulse extra time needed (but before the second measure ends). It is a solution when you need 1-1/2 measures of break.

If I understand your question, I think that might be what you are looking for Alan.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you now, and thank you for the times in the future that I make use of it.
