Yamaha understands the market place!  As the baby boomers disappear, the arranger WILL change for the next generation of players... which is EDM and EDM, Pop, Chill Beat, Club Dance and Trance. We are in the "in between" or "cusp" of a changing market place / buyer.  Yamaha is trying to satisfy everyone.  Some third party developers are trying to fill the gap with new Voice and Style expansion packs.

I predict that one day there will be a "synth arranger"... it's only a matter of time.

;)

Lets hope they will still be backward compatible,....

Well, something is up with Yamaha giving away its expansion packs for FREE.  It makes me wonder what's coming next.

Joe - dont you think to an extent we already have that in the TOTL arrangers. Most of them have synth/workstation features which are at least equal to the previous generation of dedicated synths, although maybe not to todays top end synth/workstations.
There will always be some differentiation and segmentation in the market, different strokes for different folks, and it is hard to predict how technology will change things going forward. But there are some fundamentals that should remain true.
-People live longer and get more affluent
-Easy play instruments pander to that regret many have as they get older of not learning to play an instrument or not learning to play it better.
- What we listen to when we are younger will influence what we play but not completely change what older people play, because our taste changes.
- What we play is influenced by practical aspects of what we can play. Heck of a lot easier to learn to play a simple country or pop sing a long type song than produce complex technically driven EDM type arrangements.
- Asian markets are growing at incredible pace, and they have quite a traditional approach to music.
If I were to guess I think the evolution of arrangers is just as likely to move towards lower cost CVP type instruments - basically really great sounding digital pianos with easy play accompaniment features, than more complex synth/arranger combinations. Maybe the market will divide into two directions, who knows.

Mike,

All good points.  Since Yamaha is selling to a world market of many cultures; we will have to wait and see. At 72 years old I don't know how much longer I will be around... maybe 15 years(?) It's hard to know where the technology will be in just 5 years.

My musical tastes have changed since my twenties when I played simple piano and guitar rock 'n roll.  Now I don't really like the sound of guitars for the most part and piano... it's what kind of mood I'm in and genre of music. But I like how George Harrison and sometimes how Eric Clapton used the guitar for melodic motifs and counter lead instrumental parts to complement their vocals.  Piano is used in EDM as a support instrument rather than for playing the lead melody.

Perhaps the site was hacked ...
Or ... a new generation of sounds requiring far more memory ....

I got my survey this week, 50 questions..

What worries me is them trying to find out if certain feautures are being used
Like does anyone use mic input and aux input at the same time?
If most people answer no, they might cut it from Genos 2?

The only thing, i missed was a question asking for peoples wishes..

Yamaha must know that not everyone uses all the features of the Genos.  It would be a mistake to remove something that is not popular.  They make a one-size-fits-all keyboard for mass-marketing around the world.

And I find it curious that they didn't ask... what new feature you like to see added to the Genos?

It was a closed question...
You could choose between options..
But not add your own..
