SFF2 Categories Question and Other

The SFF2 (SFF GE) format has several categories of styles.  I know this question has been asked before but I don't know where to look.

Question 1. What are the SFF2 categories for the following style extensions:

.STY
.PRS
.SST
.SCP
.FPS

Programs like MixMaster and StyleMagic recognize all the above file extensions as SFF2

My other question is related to User styles:
When we edit a style and save the style from Style Creator, the above style categories are always saved as a User Style with the extension .STY

Question 2: What model keyboard did this implementation begin with? Was this the case prior to the release of the Tyros 3?

Thanks in advance for answers to these questions.

Hi Joe,

as far as I can find out the earlier keyboards used the SSF1 style type as can be seen here :-

http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/sf2c/index.htm

So I am guessing that the tyros 2 and prior used the earlier format and that changed with the Tyros 3 onwards.

Jørgen would probably have more insight regarding that question.

Thank you Jørgen,

So the SFF2 started with the Tyros 3 and the PSR S series.

Also interesting that if you edit an SFF1 style on a newer keyboard and resave it, it automatically saves as SFF2.

Hi Joe,

SFF2 was introduced with Tyros3 and PSR-S910.  That means, Tyros2, PSR-S900 and earlier models use SFF1 Style File Format.

P.S.
In principle, the Extension of a Style file says nothing about the Format of the Style in question (SFF1 or SFF2).

The extensions ".prs" (= Pro Style), ".sst" (= Session Style) (and some others) are also used for SFF1 Styles.

As far as I know, the Style types ".fps" (= Free Play Style) and ".scp" (= DJ Style) were only introduced after the switch to the SFF2 format. Therefore, these Style types should not be available as original Preset Styles in SFF1 format.

Best regards,
Chris

Chris,

Thank you for your response.  My question was related to my use of EMC  Style Factory.  The issue is now resolved. The issue had more to do with how Klaus implemented the Load Style in the  Phrase Extractor Module than anything else. It appeared to me that I could not load a User SFF2 style with the extension of .STY. The program limits support for SFF2 (4 Main Variations...IE; Main A, B, C and D.) to T3, T4, T5 and Genos Voice Files.  All PSR model Voice files (very few) in the program support the original old format with only 2 Main Variations referred to as SFF. This was confusing to me because there are early PSR models as far back as the PSR 740 that support 4 Variations which is referred to as SFF1

If you own a PSR 910 or newer PSR arranger, you have to do a work-around by creating your own Voice definition file and rename it Tyros 3, Tyros 4, Tyros 5 or Genos in order to get support for the new format SFF2 (SFF GE).  Klaus has no interest in updating the program. It's a very useful program, but should be updated to support all keyboard models from Tyros 3 and newer. Klaus tells me he has no PSR S970 Sound Map, so I have to create my own. I've posted elsewhere today asking if anyone has a Voice file PSR S970.snd  or PSR S975.snd for the latest version of Style Works Universal XT or Style Works Yamaha.
