Hi Aleks,

unfortunately, the PSR-3000 can NOT load any Expansion Voices. This is only able with the PSR-950/750 (.YEP format), Tyros4 (.UVN/.UVD format), (PSR-970/770/975/775, Tyros5 and Genos (PPF/CPF format).

The only thing you could do is trying some so called "Voice Set" files (.VCE and some other extensions). Such a Voice Set file is always based on the particular Preset voice of the keyboard on which the voice was created. By making changes to the "Voice Set" (on PSR-3000 it's called "Sound Creator") and/or Mixing Console / Effects, such Voices can sound very different from the original Preset Voice.

On the following page you can download several Collections of such voice files (e.g. "Henni's Collection") and try them out on your PSR-3000. However, some of these voices may not sound that good on your keyboard (or don't produce any sound at all) if the PSR-3000 does not contain the original Samples:

>>> https://psrtutorial.com/sty/OF/voice.html

Note: Voice Set files can ONLY be played in Keyboard Parts. They can NOT be used in Styles, Multi Pads or MIDI files!

And, as I said, completely new sounds CANNOT be loaded into the PSR-3000.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Aleks

The PSR 3000 is still a capable keyboard, many voices not change even on today's PSRs and the OS is 90% the same, if I was stuck and had to gig with a 3000 it wouldn't be too much of a problem but I would probably purchase something like the 'Yammex' module to add some more recent voices, choirs etc.

This audio clip is from my S910 playing a violin from a external module,
Everything is controlled from the S910.

Hi Babette,

you can TRY to import .YEP files to the YEM. But the results are usually NOT good because the YEP conversion routine at YEM is unfortunately still in the BETA stage and in many cases does NOT work satisfactorily.

When importing an original Yamaha .YEP Pack file, in most cases only the Styles are imported (but no Voices). YEM outputs an error message similar to the following example:
Quote"----log message of .yep----"
  "Brasil Kit 1"
" [Warning] could not handle layered sample."
  "Brasil Kit 2"
" [Warning] could not handle layered sample."

  "----log message of conversion----"
"Cavaquinho is not compatible (Only linear waves are supported)."
"Bandolim is not compatible (Only linear waves are supported)."
"Viola Caipira is not compatible (Only linear waves are supported)."
"Berimbau & Surdo is not compatible (Only linear waves are supported)."
"Brasil Kit 1 is not compatible (Drum Kit Voice Error)."
"Brasil Kit 2 is not compatible (Drum Kit Voice Error)."

On the other hand, many Voices of third-party or User-made .YEP Packs CAN be imported correctly to the YEM. (Sometimes there are problems here too, e.g. looped Voices may not work properly in some cases). However, certain Voices can be used without any problems. :)

So there may be unexpected problems when using YEP packs in YEM, but you can simply try out whether a particular pack is compatible. :)

P.S.
IF certain Voices of a .YEP Pack CAN be imported to the YEM, I recommend double-clicking each Voice in that Pack and checking the Voice in the Voice Editor of the YEM (by clicking some keys on the virtual keyboard).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris :

Many, many thanks for your very useful, detailed and interesting reply.
I feel very sorry to hear there is no way to convert yep into ppf.
It is what it is.

Hi Babette,

when importing a .YEP file to the YEM, it IS automatically converted, of course. But unfortunately, this conversion routine does not yet work satisfactorily, as mentioned. :(

But give it a try! You can't break anything. If an imported .YEP Pack does not work as desired, you can simply delete it from YEM later ... :)

Chris
