about nine minutes in playing over the rainbow.
which styles are those?

Yamaha refers to these type of styles as 'Free Play'. 

This type of style is not new. There were several on the Tyros4 for example.

They all have the file extension '.fps' and appear in the style selection screens and on the Main screen with 'Free Play' above the style name.

See the section 'Style Characteristics' on page 41 of the PSR-SX900 Owner's Manual for a very brief description of the style types.

Yamaha is typically shy of (or can't be bothered!) providing customers with useful information, and true to form, they don't identify them in the Data List! 

There are six Free Play styles on the SX900, as listed below.

Hello,

You can make any style a drum free style by shutting off the drum channels in the channel on - off section.

I do that often when playing soft ballads and such. Even shut off other channels to see what that does. It can be surprising at times.

At least I have a better idea regarding free styles, thanks.

However they seem to be very limited.

guessing they're designed to play left and right hand ( not just left holding down chords) and without a strict tempo.

Taking out the drum line from a normal style would not really make it freestyle, because all the bass riffs and other lines are working within the tempo. In a freestyle, the style is designed so that there are no obvious bar markers, like riffs n bass. It is mostly just a pad sound, and and sounds OK when played rubato.
